Folks, it's gonna be A&M

Some of y'all not from this part of the world likely don't realize that A&M throws tantrums every now and again -- much like a little brother does when big brother acts unilaterally -- before getting in line and doing what its told

This is one of those times.

Make no mistake, A&M wants into the SEC. BADLY. They did back in the early 90s. But big brother Texas doesn't want to go there and they want little brother to come west. And, as this linked piece below should show you, the time on A&M's most recent tantrum is about to run dry.

In the end, A&M will fall in line and be a member of the Pac-16. I really wish there was a spot for Utah, but the link says KU is the next option, which makes a lot of sense. (They'd be crazy to pass up KU hoops.)

Should I accept a blog out of Austin as definitive?

For all I know, his "source" is someone from the UT athletic department. Maybe you read Bohl and have a better pulse on how good his information usually is. I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here because I can only judge this on face value as a first time reader of this guy.

And I didn't get from that blog that Kansas is next option, just that they would be considered.

I really don't think we're going to learn anything of consequence until Monday or Tuesday.

i'd much rather have KU than ATM in *our* new conference but i doubt ATM has the stones to go the other way.

Buffnik: Feel free to think what you will, and I hope you are right! However, I've seen A&M pull stunts like this too many times, only to tuck tail and follow UT's lead.

I too would much rather have Utah or KU in the league. Hopefully the SEC invites Aggieland.

And Bohls is a pretty solid reporter. Being in Texas Jr., I've read his stuff every so often.

I think most of us realize that TAMU plus the other teams is the most likely scenario, but that won't stop us from hoping

If the SEC invites aTm, then they are going to the SEC. I wouldn't be surprised if the SEC jumps in and makes a big splash inviting both aTm and Mizzou as both states are located solidly next to SEC country. My feeling is it is about 70% probable that aggie is coming to Pac, but I've seen stranger things.

a&m only shot at relevance is outside of the UT shadow. Personally, I think OU and a&m need to grow a pair and get out on their own. I never knew UT played Geppetto so much to these two. They look like stooges.

Then I'll trust that it's a legitimate source and informed opinion. Besides, I agree with the Texas A&M analysis. They hate UT too much to leave them.

The one thing I believe may be opening this up is the Texas governor seems to be saying to both of them, "Do whatever's in your best interest. But you will continue to play every season no matter whether you're in the same conference or not." I think that may be opening the door for Aggie to do something unprecedented here.

I wonder if these guys will show up to Cal?

Yeah, and as this day has progressed, the SEC sounds like they're starting to make a big move. Or try to, at least. They know they can get A&M for sure, which *COULD* draw in UT and OU (and OSU probably too). That would be their best route to a 16-team conference. And goodness, that league would be insanely tough.

But, it's a double edged sword. We lose UT, and we lose the $20 million payday. Maybe a Pac-12 with Utah or KU could get $14-$16 million/year, but we just don't know. So this is tough. I'd rather not bring the SWC with us, but we probably lose the big payday if we don't.

A&M is stupid enough to jump, though, and it will be interesting to see how UT reacts because there's no way they'll want A&M as a non-con game.

Although I secretly hope that ATM bails to the SEC so we could pull in Utah, after growing up here in Austin and moving back here, I know that ATM will go where Texas goes. Texas doesn't want any piece of the SEC. They don't want to damage their academic rep and are affraid of getting their butts whipped and going 7-5, 8-4 every year. You can take this one to the bank. Mack runs the HS coaches down here and I guarantee if ATM bolts there will be a state wide revolt from the top down and ATM will lose even more recruits than they already get. Even though the HS kid is ultimately in control of his own destiny don't discount the influence a HS coach can have. - The HS coaches will bad mouth ATM for their betrail and the SEC will begin to cherry pick everybody else. Also what will ATM do with their fight song? The first few lines are Good by to Texas University.....although quite fitting now and for the next couple years it would be really stupid if they don't play them anymore and everyone here is convinced UT will blackball them and not schedule them anymore. ATM needs Texas more thant Texas needs ATM. - ATM is gone to the Pac 10 if Texas goes.

Well, yes, and Cal will prob be confused. They will have no problem with what they are doing in their "nutsack squeezing" but will not expect it from a group of military guys from conservative school . LOL!

Well...

this link says Utah is in.

Anybody's guess really until there's a press conference these days.
