if the big 5 join us in the p10, i think we are looking at 25mm per school, minimum, payout.

and i think that we'll be close to or at that number even if utah or ku replaces atm.

if it is just us and ut (which i think would be a preference for the p10 but not the longhorns), i think we're probably still in the 20mm+ range.

if it is just us and utah or ku to the pac and the b12(or whatever) holds together with ut and ou, then i think we're probably down around 15mm per.

so, from a money perspective, you may be talking a serious swing... we'll see, i guess.

I read 20 Mil per school if OU and UT are added and the Pac 10 becomes the Pac 16. Or slightly less than what the Big Ten pays out with only 11 members.

Keep in mind what the Pac 10 is projecting is pure conjecture. I mean the Pac 10 is the lowest revenue conference as it stands now so they have big reason to inflate things. The Big XII should have swallowed the Pac 10 not the other way around but that darn Beebe could not figure that out!

i think the 20mm number in the press may be a tad low. pure speculation on my part, based upon some things i know. ... some of it depends on whether the b12 is still viable.

Fair enough. I am sure the Pac will make a ton. Still can't figure out why the Pac with lesser sports and lesser revenue could swallow up the B12. Beebe I suppose. Anyway good luck to the Buffs hope to see you in the Rose Bowl!

I think it will be closer to 25 Mil per school if the 5 south boys join. You are then talking about blanketing the #1 and #2 most populated states in the country and close to 1/3 of the U.S. population across the whole conference. As it stands now, the Big 10 isn't even close to that.

the short answer is tv markets and timing. the p10 contract is extremely undervalued. the b12 has a lot of teams in bad tv markets. the reason the b10 contract is so good, in a nutshell, is that it was negotiated at the right time and there are ass-ton of tvs in the footprint.

i'd love to keep an annual ooc game with you guys, btw, altho i know it won't happen... think usc/notre dame intersectional type thing...

you did well, landing in the b10. it wouldn't have been a fit for us. i've been hoping for a move to the pac for about 20 years.

Apparently all the Big Ten has to do is add Rutgers or Syracuse to change all that though.

no matter what, it won't be 25mm from the get go. The network will have to establish itself first. I would expect that we will get a good national deal + the Pac Network deal and it will grow into a sizable stake in 2-4 years time.

It will certainly make a big difference, and will make the population totals of both conferences pretty close. Of course long term the populations in the Pac 16 are exploding while the Big 10 populations...not so much.

Funny thing is all I have heard is the Big Ten would not want Nebraska (at least initially) because of our teeny tv footprint. Then wammo we join the Big Ten.

I still think conference interest rules the roost and the Big XII (football-wise which we all know is king and even B-ball-wise) had far more interest than the crap ten (no offense) I think if Delany or the Pac 10 commish were the commish of the Big XII things would have been way different. Let's face it Beebe is a douche.

Anyway good luck to you all and like you said, I am sure we won't get an OOC deal but congrats to CU for landing on their feet. The Pac 10 is a good fit for you guys just like the Big Ten is for us. Who would have ever guessed a few months ago CU and NU would end up in different conferences one day apart?

This is true. Good luck to the Buffs in the Pac I will miss playing you guys.

Yeah. I am already kind of bummed thinking about Thanksgiving weekend without the corn. You guys already have a nice natural rival setup with Iowa, we are needing to find one. Hopefully Utah becomes available.

my take is that this thing ends up with three superconferences; the pac dominating the western market, the "big ten" dominating the heartland/midwest/northeast, the sec dominating the southeast/texas market. the question is will the big east and acc dissolve or combine in some form to pick up the stragglers to create a fourth superconference?

as was said before, i am glad we are watching this thing unfold from here on out...

A 16 member Pac will command at least $20 mil per school, with or without Tejas. If the Big Televen had $20+ mil per with only 11, there is no reason to think the Pac 16 won't be at least $20-25+mil with 16 teams and nearly half of the geographic USA. The Pac has been undervalued and they have a new sheriff leading the way.

ACC is going to be just fine. As of now, the Pac-10 does not have a deal anywhere close to what they get and they dominate the basketball tourney payouts.

The SEC has stated they have no interest in "raiding" the ACC, but have expressed interest in UT, A&M, OU, and OSU.

ACC might have to fend off the Big Ten for Maryland or Virginia, but would be able to replace them and go to 16 after killing off the Big East football conference.

There will be four super-conferences, with 1 (MWC) very strong "BCS level mid-major" and possibly 1 or 2 more decent mid-majors depending what happens to the leftovers of the Big 12 and Big East and Conference USA.

That is interesting to think about. We have Iowa who for some reason already kind of hates us even though we are totally new to the Big 10 compared to CU who might end up with other B12 members but not a true rival. We are both starting fresh so to speak. Any hate between any of the schools in the future Pac 10 for CU? There must be something.

For Nebraska, we have Iowa who seems like a natural rival, Wisconsin could be a friendly rivalry (their AD, Barry Alvarez, played at NU and was the Head Coach there for a long time. He is the guy who built Wisconsin into a formidable program and modeled the program after what Devaney did at NU) Then you got Minnesota that has Kevin "worst D in NU history" Cosgrove as their D-Coordinator. Michigan hates us because we shared the NC title with them in 1997 and Penn State hates us because we "stole" the NC from them in 1994.

There has to be some bad blood between CU and some Pac shools. If you know of any I would love to hear it.

:yeahthat:

i could believe $25MM assuming the tejas 5 join to make it the pac 16 though...with only 12 (assuming utah is the other add) i think $20MM is a good number. the big twelveleven (heh) will bump into the $25MM range with the fuskers alone, and the sec will kill everyone if they pull in a couple texas schools. and if the the big twelveleven gets into the ny market they could rival the sec in tv revenue....

and **** notre dame.

It is not the Televen anymore. Now we are the Big "Te-welve" :)

The weasel comes to mind. I don't much give a **** about UCLA, but we'll see what happens.

And it is just too damn hot in Arizona for our cold weather blood. Not necessarily a rival, but a school I won't travel to unless it is November.

I agree and disagree.

I agree that the Pac has been undervalued and that with Larry Scott, Kevin Weiberg, and CAA Media in their corner they will do a LOT better in the future.

But, without UT and OU it will be hard to get value better than the ACC. What the Pac will do is get less for a national deal, but reserve the cable rights for their own network hoping that the long-term future is worth more owning their own network than selling the total rights to ABC/ESPN (as the ACC and SEC did).

The Big Ten gets nearly $10MM from their ABC/ESPN deals, then the rest comes from the BTN contract and profit distributions, which fluctuate based on growth of the network.

This is the model that we can expect from the Pac-10, not SEC/ACC type deals. This means we will start lower, but have a much higher ceiling however.

CU has bumped into Oregon in the Cotton Bowl and Fiesta Bowl with a 5 year period around the turn of the millenia.
The tail gate smack was refreshing. Example banter.
CU - "Dude, I don't even know how to begin to hate you guys."
Oregon - "We've got better herb. Wanna hit?"
CU [puff, puff, pass]. "Niiiice. I got one. The girls in Boulder have more armpit hair."
Oregon - Yeah, right. Sasquatch is alive and well in the pacific northwest. What are the bike lanes like in Boulder?"
CU - There are more bikes in Boulder than there are cars.
Oregon - Same here. Portland has some kind microbreweries.
CU [hands over a bottle of Buffalo Gold] - Check this one out.
Oregon - Good stuff. Maybe I'll check out Boulder someday.
CU - Where is Oregon University?
Oregon - Eugene, man.
CU - Oh. Never heard of it. Does it rain alot?
Oregon. - It's cool. You get used to it.
CU - We get 300+ days of sun, and are close to the slopes.
Oregon - We got some skiing, too. Glaciers are skiable in July.
CU - Got a beach?
Oregon - Nah. We call it the coast. You need a wet suit.
CU - Cool. I bet we can both agree that California sucks.
Oregon - Word. Good luck, man.
CU - You, too.
