So Beebe has floated the 10-team conference

Chip Brown says Texas is considering it... probably because Beebe is saying UT can net $17 million from the new TV deal and start their own network. Surely the other nine teams are not dumb enough to jump on board with that scenario.:wow::lol:

Good God, if that actually happens, I am even more relieved to be switching conferences.

I hope Chip Brown is enjoying his two days and 15 minutes of fame.
Seems to be in the middle of everything, but only at as a UT mouthpiece.

i hate to say it... we want texas...they bring the cash of the tv deal... if A&M goes sec we replace them with utah and then UT and tech have a rivalry then OU OSU CU UU create the geograpgical rivalry

And...a big AND...the Sooners and Longhorns can't afford to stop the RRS series. That's one tough OOC game for the Sooners every year.

Ehh, we will make plenty of $$ with the new PAC deal. No sense in diluting it with all the Big12 south teams that aren't in it for the long haul. If CU wants to make money, they need to win! DalWard was built off of a Championship and the stadium was expanded off of a Big12 Championship.

Chipper's latest tweet says the Big 12 staying is a long shot but it's closer than what it was 2 days ago-

Chip's latest article is pretty informative. Of course take with a grain of salt.

If what he is reporting is relatively accurate this appears to be really breaking in our favor, getting 4 South schools including our UT paycheck and then getting either Utah or KU as the final member. Hope that is what happens. Seems the legislature is starting to get more interested since they may be realizing this could break up the Texas dominance in college football, but their meeting is called for wednesday when it appears everything should be about set in stone by then anyway.

This is right in line with most of the credible speculation I was hearing late yesterday.

Texas A&M and Oklahoma are both looking hard at the SEC offer.

Texas does not want to go to the SEC. They don't like the academic prestige of the conference and they know that they won't draw any more water than a number of other teams that have bigger stadiums and fertile in-state recruiting grounds. They hate that.

But the Pac 10 option isn't all that appealing, either. The academic side of the university favors that, but the athletic department and fan base isn't so excited. Very few road trips that can be taken by car versus the situation in the Big 12 where at least 4 and sometimes 5 of the South matchups take place in the state of Texas and as many as 2 of the 3 games against the North. Throw in 4 non-conference games with as many as 3 taking place in Texas, and you've got a fan base that's been spoiled with as many as 10/12 of UT's games happening in Texas. Further, if it makes the conference championship game, that game's in Texas too. That's a big argument for trying to save the Big 12 or even trying to pull off a new SWC that boots some teams that are too far north for Texas fans' liking.

It seems strange to say, but I think that UT's move is actually going to be dependent on what Aggie does. Also Oklahoma. Expect a lot of leaked and planted stories over the next few days that stress how important to the state's financial health it is for everyone to stick together, how any politician who allows this to happen will find it nearly impossible to be re-elected, etc., etc. If you thought that smear campaigns and maneuvering against CU, NU and MU were nasty, wait until you see what's going to happen in Tejas this week.

In the end, I think that UT comes to the Pac with TTU. Utah makes 14. And then the PAC waits to see if 16 is the magic revenue number. That will only be the case if others go to 16 and the NCAA changes to rules to allow semi-final playoff games for 16-team conferences.

 at A&M being teh school competing with Texas s the top research institution in the conference... Plus, if you think about it that makes absolutely NO ****ing sense. You WANT other top research institutions in your conference.

Of course I could also see this all being orchestrated by Tejas to bait the two most powerful programs in the North to bolt so they can swoop in and save the day in the end as the good guys and make the weakened conference that much more their playground with easy wins and money. Either way we win.

That's not the way Texans think.

The professors and university administration would agree with you. But nearly everyone else would rather be able to say, "We're #1 in research in the conference!" over being able to say, "We've got research partnerships with every university in our conference, 9 of which are AAU members, and we have also formed research partnerships with 4 members of the Ivy League".

P.S. And this is why I believe a new SWC or a save of the Big 12 is likely to happen. They'd rather be masters of a smaller domain they can tell each other is the best versus being a strong member of a large and balanced domain.

ITs the Beebe plan.

HE BEEBE PLAN

Here's what Beebe has provided to the five Big 12 South schools who have been targeted by the Pac-10, including Texas A&M, who has been in deep conversation about joining the SEC, according to sources.

--Beebe has secured information that enough money could be inked in its next TV negotiation (in 2011) that revenues per school would jump from between $7 million and $10 million in the Big 12 currently to $17 million beginning in 2012, which is what the SEC pays out.

--The remaining Big 10 schools would divide up the more than $20 million in buyout penalties that will have to be paid by Colorado and Nebraska for leaving the league early.

--Individal institutions would be allowed to pursue their own networks, which has been a goal of Texas. If the Longhorns went to the Pac-10, they would have to forgo their own distribution platforms, including a network, because the Pac-16 would seek to have a conference network in which all inventory is shared.

(Consultants have put Texas' ability to generate revenue from its own network at between $3 million and $5 million after a start-up window of about three years.)

--The Big 12 would proceed with 10 teams. Everyone would play everyone in football, providing a nine-game conference schedule.

--The conference championship game would be dumped in the short-term (because the NCAA mandates 12 schools for a football title game).

--The loss of Nebraska and Colorado should have been a loss of about 16 percent to the league's revenue generating capacity. But because Colorado was an underperformer, the league lost only about 8.6 percent of its value with the loss of Nebraska, according to sources with knowledge of the Beebe Plan.

Cool, let the Hatfield and McCoy's stay together. This buys us some time to get the program going against institutions that are more similar to us and gets us going.. Eventually like the SWC, Texas, OU and the rest will go west once the Big 12 collapses.

Hope it happens.

As an aside, I don't quite understand the math in the last bullet. Got to assume that Nebraska brought a bit over half of the 16% estimate. We were down, but I think it's safe to say that 4 North Titles and a Big 12 Title this decade, being in the upper third of the conference in national tv appearances every year, and also bringing the largest media market outside the Tejas borders would have to equal CU having brought some value to the conference. That figure's about as credible as the stat saying that Baylor's participation in the Big 12 is worth over 3/4 of a billion dollars a year to the state of Tejas.

Not to mention they are insane if they think they will get as much money as the SEC does with a new contract. :wtf:

They're throwing around stuff to see what sticks. Best case scenario for me is that we go to the Pac with Utah and it stops there - for the time being. The B12 remains as a 10-team conference for a few years with UT systematically dismantling it the way it did the SWC. In another 5-6 years, the Pac comes in and extends invites to UT, OU, and KU and somebody else (don't really care) and we have ourselves a 16-team conference that controls a third of the television sets in the USA.

It is called the "Beebe Plan" therefore it should be taken as valuable and accurate as the source of the plan.

Might as well be called the "Charlie Brown Plan".
