BYU and Air Force to Big 12

Looks like Big12 will be back to 12. BYU and Air Force will be invited to replace NU and CU by Wed. Texas/Okla schools are all on board.

I'll believe it when I see it. The Big 12 hasn't even gotten it's own house in order. It's in no position to be granting invites.

I wonder if this is to undercut the Pac-10 which looks like they will invite Utah to the Pac-10 as the 12th member.

Honestly, does this fit what AFA is all about?

Sheesh. I take a 15 minute break to come in the house, kiss the wife hello, eat a cookie and these a-holes put this out on the broadcast? Well, let's if the afternoons idots say anything about this.

I will believe this one when I see it, color me sceptical. BYU is a money generator but is a pain to work with due to not scheduling on Sundays, etc. Air Force would be physically overmatched if they have to play Big XII teams on a week after week basis.

The advantage that both schools have is national fan interest with BYU popular with mormons outside of Utah and Air Force attractive due to the military link.

Pain in the butt to work with the Pac...not pain in the butt to work with the Big X.

I understand BYU fitting in with the Big 12 but AFA?

Afternoon show just now de-bunked this. Saying "someone hacked into their twitter account" or something...

BYU would be an excellent choice. Air Force - not so much. I actually believe that CSU has a higher top end potential than Air Force has. Pump $10MM/Year (or whatever the number turns out to be) into CSU and they might actually put something together up there. Air Force will always be what it is - a bunch of over-achieving hard working kids. CSU has a much larger alumni base and if they ever actually got their act together, they *could* have a decent program.

Honestly, though, if I were the Big 12, I'd be looking at Memphis and BYU. Maybe throw TCU in the mix somewhere just for the epic games between TCU and Baylor.

Between AFA and CSU no contest. AFA averages about 40k per home game, CSU can't fill a stadium that doesn't even seat 40k. CSU averaged about 24k last year and that with some of the lowest ticket prices in D1.

The difference on the road is even greater, how well does CSU travel, the don't. AFA has Air Force personel or retired AF no matter where they go, they also have others who go just to see the show. AF also has a better track record for TV rating in bowl games and I would imagine it is better in non bowl games as well.

Air Force also gives a conference a certain status based on their academics and the lack of question regarding their recruiting.

I did grad school at CSU and even support them against most opponents but they are one of the lowest revenue schools even compared to other mid-majors. AFA is way ahead in revenue potential and that is the bottom line in all this.

I can see BYU jumping to the Big 12, especially now that Utah looks to be in the Pac-12. The state will be pushing BYU pretty hard, and in all honesty, they are perfect fit in the BigTex 12.

IF, the Big 12 can truly deliver $15+ million per year from TV deals, then I could see Arkansas getting pulled back in to the "SWC/Big 12 graveyard" because they feel they aren't a good fit in the SEC.

If not Arky, then Memphis has been hooking on the corner and word on the street is that they got some spending money but need a pimp to show them how the game works.

I'm sure Bevo won't mind breaking them in.

:wtf:. Arky loves the SEC. I can't believe you are suggesting that. Not to mention they would take a pay cut even with the fantastic imaginary TV deal going to the timid ten. The last thing in the world that arky wants to do is hang out in a remade SWC.

Not going to argue, just throwing out what I've heard. Some Arky fans say they love the SEC, others that they have become irrelevant without Texas access for recruits.

Petrino is doing just fine on the recruiting front these days...

Not only did the radio station debunk the rumor, but they posted some garbage someone heard from a Big 12 AD that is nothing less than an affront to CU:

www.ksl.com/?nid=498&sid=11171493

"That AD said the Big 12 schools were essentially glad to be rid of Colorado. The CU program amounted to a headache for the conference more often than not and the Buffs' departure disappointed no one in that league. He added that losing Nebraska was a huge deal, and replacing the Cornhusker program is not something easily done. This particular AD said he thought Air Force would be a great replacement for Colorado from a character standpoint, an academic standpoint, a fan base standpoint, a geographic standpoint, and at least in football, a competitive standpoint."

Anyone else think that a Husker fan is behind this garbage?

Dude, as an Arky alum, we do just fine in Texas. Actually we usually pull 1/4 to 1/3 of our recruits from TX. We are recruiting more nationally with Petrino, but to suggest that we don't have access to TX recruits is crazy. In fact, we have beaten UT out for a recruit in the past couple of years, Cobi Hamilton, look him up. Also Jatashun Beachum. In fact, I'll post rivals profiles from some Texas guys from the past two years.

I'll actually stop there. But those are a few guys from TX. Bottom line it's stupid to leave the SEC. We will never do so. As far as irrelevance in Texas goes, we play A&M every year in the SW Classic in Jerryworld, and Dallas has a massive Arkansas alumni base. I'd say our FB program does pretty well. We had a down period after we moved to the SEC, but we are coming on strong. If you are talking about other sports as well, we have done pretty damned well in the SEC in other sports. Just look at our basketball, track, and baseball programs.

Yep, I like AFA, but I sure see about 1000% more CU gear in the world. This report, like many others, is unfounded and ridiculous

Wasn't trying to start a debate on the subject, at all, I personally have no "skin in the game" and agree that it would be foolish for Arky to leave the SEC.

Fair enough. Sorry about the overreaction. I get pissed because on the Ark board I post on we get alot of trolls coming on and saying stuff about how we are irrelevant in the SEC and should leave. Just hits a nerve I guess.

Arky leaving the SEC is a joke. They already left the SWC once. Why would they go back?
