Darrell Scott to UCLA?

UCLA Rivals board reporting that he has been put on scholarship. Not an admin post, so who knows? It's making its way around the interweb, though, and figured I'd fill in everyone here.

Yep, I saw that, too.

But this article says UCLA doesn't have enough schollys as it is.
http://www.insidesocal.com/ucla/2009/06/uclas-scholarship-count.html

I know a lot of folks are wondering about UCLA's scholarship count heading into training camp.
Currently, if all of UCLA's signees (and JUCO commit Branden Warner) are eligible, coach Rick Neuheisel will have to clear four more scholarships to get down to the 85 limit.
For those wondering, this will not be an issue since scholarships must be renewed on an annual basis.

Would be a strange time to give up a scholly to a kid who HAS to sit out a year.

But who knows, really?

Has DS even put in for his official release from the Buffs. Last time I checked he hadn't.

I think it's time to just let the DS history fade to black. It will always be tied to the failure of Dan Hawkins but he didn't do much to stop it or prove him wrong.

I can see it now. UCLA down to CU by 4 with seconds to go. They pitch left to Scott. He heads for the endzone only to get stuffed at the one as time runs out.

I wouldn't care except it's Slick Rick and true to his style. Yet, I still believe it's untrue. I don't think they have the scholly's and they are overloaded at RB. Bottom line, DS didn't show well at the college level and they have some guys from HS coming in that will get the benefit of the doubt first I would think.

So if UCLA is a conference opponent now, and we resricted his release to non-conference schools, does that apply here? Or does he at least have to sit out an extra year? I don't want to pile on the guy, but I really don't want to set up any possibility of Neuheisel, J-Fly, and Darrell Scott getting a crack at the Buffs - it would just piss me off too much.

He has to sit out this fall season (unless he plays for CU - which seems rather unlikely). Regardless of where he lands, unless it is not a Div 1 school. I don't think we are technically a PAC10 school yet, so if he can get an offer there, shouldn't be a problem this year.

Bottom line: He had five years to play four from the day he enrolled at CU, and two years have passed. He has three left to play two, but must sit out the next season.
I don't remember ever reading that he asked for or was given the release to approach other schools. Maybe CU just didn't make a news release out of it if it happened.

UCLA has promised far too many to farmvillians at the moment. A few of them will have to give up or postpone their dream of playing for baby boy blue.

Most schools have a policy in place not to let players transfer to schools on future schedules. It isn't a policy limited strictly to conference opponents.

So it would all depend on whether he asked for and got a release already and what the restrictions are on it. Because Josh Smith left for UCLA and we'll be playing him in a year or two. So if Darrell dawdled, he may have further limited his choices.

I think that Hawaiian guy that played center for CU will be a senior next year as well. UCLA will be well outfitted with former Buffs. However, given UCLA's depth at RB, I seriously doubt Scott will see much time, assuming this rumor is even true.

Well if slick rick had talked to DScott and told him a scholarship would be available once Fall or next Spring rolled around, it would finally make some sense as to why Scott has seemingly been doing nothing to get another scholarship elsewhere. I wouldn't put it past the weasel.

Since it would clearly be a violation if they spoke before receiving a release from CU to do so, they would both have some explaining to do.
Interesting to see if our coaches and Bohn would sigh, say "whatever" and sign the release now -- if asked -- or whether they'd say "you didn't hold up your part of the bargain, son."

Interesting. Have to say it's unpredictable, could go either way.

Violation? Slick Rick? Noo.....

That said, I'd just let the kid go.

I thought Scott WAS released by Hawkins but could not go to certain teams...then he didn't really leave, then there were rumors he wanted to come back and now this. I think Rick is a little more careful these days about violations so I doubt he would take a chance and do something stupid this early in his UCLA career.

I hate to speak ill of the kid because he is just a kid, but my goodness, how out of shape do you imagine he is by now?

I hope he's in shape and has worked something out to get back on track somewhere. Darrell thought enough of us to come to Boulder when he could have gone anywhere. Since I don't know what happened between him and the coaching staff, and am not altogether confident that this staff gets it right, I'm pulling for Darrell to succeed.

I wish him well also. I don't understand what the heck happened, and I'm sorry it did not work out at CU, I just hope he gets a chance to play somewhere.

I still wish Darrell well, hope he figures out what he wants and works to get it.

Here's all I could find out about his situation:

Nov. 2009 "Running Back plans to transfer to UCLA"
Scott later confirmed he is leaving to join his uncle and former CU wide receiver, Josh Smith, with the Bruins.
In same story:
When Smith initially decided to transfer last spring, Bohn gave Smith a release from his scholarship, but only to Southern California initially. Bohn later expanded the list of schools where Smith could transfer. Bohn said it was premature Tuesday to say if there would be any limits on Scott's release.
Nov. 3, 2009 Denver Post: Darrell Scott leaving Colorado football, hopes to play at UCLA

Camera Dec. 15, 2009 "Darrell Scott has not asked for release"
Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn said former CU running back Darrell Scott still has not asked for a release from his scholarship or permission to contact other schools and coaches.
Then very little, other than the late winter/early spring rumor that tv's lombardi stirred up, saying Scott was returning to Colorado. (Darrell Scott broke his silence to refute this rumor.)

But the current "Inside UCLA" column just collected and posted their fan questions for next week, and several are about new Darrell Scott rumors. I'd imagine the answers (posted on the 19th or 20th?) will give us some kind of insight or update. Inside SoCal with Jon Gold Weekly Q&A

Typical questions:
1. Darrell Scott to UCLA? Huh?
2. Darrell Scott to UCLA since Knox is out...true or false?
3. Was Jerry Neuheisel offered a scholarship that would count against next year's class or as a preferred walk-on? If the former, why? Not that the Neuheisels need it, but does the university knock off part of the tuition for kids of faculty/employees?
Oh, right. The third question wasn't about Darrell Scott. But heck I had to post it. Did RN not pay attention to how difficult the Hawkins/Hawkins situation has been on all participants? Nope. He's offered his own son at quarterback.

Slick is a moron and I can't wish him well. Having DS join UCLA, I would have to root against the whole lot of them. I can wish Daryl well just about anywhere else he would land. But I am still on record stating he just isn't that good..... Time will tell.

Better yet; how about a goal line fumble a la MH that costs UCLA the game. :devil2:
