USC Transfers

Should definitely be a few and perhaps Scotty McKnight's USC connections will pay off. How many open schollies do we have and who do you think we should try to recruit?

We've got 2 openings right now after adding Makiri Pugh from Georgia. It becomes 3 if it turns out that Favors never makes it in.

I'd love to add 2 seniors that can come in and start immediately. Too many guys in the junior class to go that route, but a couple more seniors would be great.

AZ reported some interesting scoop tonight. Could Mitch Mustain be coming to Boulder so Hansen can finally get his redshirt year?

Wish this would have happened in a previous year. Too much continuity to be lost. No more redshirts, this is Tyler's job to lose and should that happen it's time to move on and look to the future.

I highly doubt USC will release any frosh or soph from their scholarships to attend CU now that we're in their conference.

I'm not sure they have a choice? I don't know all the rules, but I thought the NCAA was letting anyone transfer out of USC who wanted to free of penalty.

I believe it's just juniors and seniors due to it being a 2-year postseason ban for the Trojans.

I don't think USC can do anything about it. The NCAA has spoken. Anybody with two years or less on the current USC roster can transfer without penalty.

edit: I see you're talking about Freshmen & Sophmores. Still, I'm not sure USC can do anything about it. They're in a world of sh*t right now.

Got it. I wasn't aware that the NCAA was allowing players to move without penalty. I wonder if that holds true if USC appeals?

I don't know. But this whole idea of an appeal is odd to me. Who are they going to appeal to? The NCAA? Isn't this kind of like getting sentenced to 20 years, and then appealing to the exact same judge who sentenced you?

I agree but they (USC fans) seem to be confident that their penalties will get sharply reduced in the "appeals process", whatever that may be.

Reduced penalties in the "appeals process" is loosely defined as: "OK, NCAA, you got us. Now how badly do we have to let you bend our men's basketball program over a barrel to get you to reduce our football penalties?".

They were also confident they would be let off lightly before the initial sanctions came out. They're far more arrogant than Texas could ever be, even if Texas was trying its hardest. USC fans are the worst.

usc junior's and senior's can transfer without penalty by the NCAA out of conference - they sit out a year IN-confernce - The frosh are f**ked.

USC has now lost one.

Jordan Campbell, a part-time starter at OLB, is transferring to Louisville. Charlie Strong's off to a good start with the Cardinals.

USC has lost its second transfer. Junior DE Malik Jackson, in a bit of poetic justice, has left Lane for Tennessee.

Also, I finally found out that Colorado is subject to the Pac 10 rules in regard to transfers and the conference has not waived the 1-year requirement to sit out a year for transfers to conference members from USC. USC juniors and seniors would not get the exemption if they transferred to CU.

Byron Moore is leaving USC. We were a finalist for him, no?

RS-Freshman. High school teammates with Josh Moten at Narbonne. CU was one of 3 visits that Moore took (along with USC and Notre Dame).

He is going to Los Angeles Harbor College (JUCO) for a year and then transfer. http://www.conquestchronicles.com/2010/7/7/1557742/byron-moore-leaving-usc

According to Moore's dad, "He wants a fresh start." He'd been expected to start at Nickel Corner for USC this year. I actually think he'd get a shot at Cornerback if he came to CU. We like big corners, we're losing Jimmy and Jalil (who both came in as CB/S hybrid athletes), and Moore is very similar to Pugh (a CB/S tweener who transferred in from Georgia this year). I really hope we're on him. He'd be a great JC transfer for the 2011 class.

Didn't we decide there were some restrictions against these guys transferring in conference that would apply to CU?

I'm not sure we ever saw anything "official" from the Pac 10 on this issue. The conference definitely said it would not waive the 1-year of sitting out transfer requirement for its conference members (which the NCAA lifted for USC junior and seniors wishing to transfer). The speculation, which was reported as fact on Utah's message boards, was that CU and the Utes were being held to the Pac 10 standard by the conference.

Maybe that was reported in error? If you think about it, if a guy is leaving USC then he's leaving regardless of whether Colorado or Utah has a spot for him. So it's not like we're doing extra harm to the conference's flagship football program. And since we don't play in the conference in 2010, conference members do not have to compete against the seniors and only play the juniors for 1 season in 2011 -- same as they would if a junior transferred and sat out a year. So it doesn't hurt the flagship, doesn't give a competitive advantage against the conference, and only serves to potentially strengthen CU or Utah instead of that talent going elsewhere.

Seems to me that the Pac 10 would want a guy like Travon Patterson to choose CU over his other options. It's been semi-confirmed on Rivals (SD, an admin there checked a source and gave a thumbs up after Tyler Hansen's brother posted "Patterson to CU").

I've held off on posting it here until we know for sure.

But it looks good. And Travon Patterson is a major league track guy who is an immediate game changer for the Buffs offense this year.
