Hawk floats extension idea

News Junkie
Dan Hawkins would like a contract extension and he`s not afraid to say so. In a meeting of head coaches in the Colorado athletic department earlier this summer, a senior staff member asked the Buffs` head football coach if there was one thing the department could do to help his program succeed this season, what would it be?

One side says that Hawkins is close to joining the 4:20 crowd if he hasn't done so by now and one side would say that conference moves can be difficult if there is no coaching stability. When we saw schools switch conferences, I don't recall those schools replacing their coaches as they start play in the new conference.

Honestly, I don't know how the man walks with balls that big. :wow: Let's hope some of that confidence makes it onto the field this fall.

The really interesting question here is who leaked the info. I'm betting on someone in the AD who really, really doesn't like Hawkins.

No problem with a contract extension ... :saythat:

... with a $0.00 buyout clause. :smile2:

Put up or shut up.

OK, I've got a question for you smartasses :smile2:

Apparently this statement by Hawkins was said in a closed meeting. It sounds like someone present at the meeting "leaked" it. Why would they do that? Should they have done that? Shouldn't this have remained an "internal" discussion? If I were Bohn, unless he is the leaker, I'd be pissed. Because the only thing that will come out of this is the kind of reaction seen so far on these message boards. Plus, I'll guarantee, it will get out to guys like Klatt who will spend an hour or two on radio cracking jokes and ripping Hawkins. Forget Hawkins, this will reflect negatively on the program.

I'm with Montana on this. Give him the extension, but cut the buyout per year way down or make it so that the buyout is still the same total $$.

I agree with Montana. Sounds great to me. Oh, an a pay cut. As bohn said, gotta cut some fat from the budget!

In the order you asked the questions: to get exactly this response, yes, no.

I fail to see how this reflects negatively on the program. It reflects completely upon simply how ****ing far out of touch our head coach is. And this should help provide even more public support for ****canning this ****ing assclown.

I would support an extension for Hawk if he'd just start working on the little things. Dude seems to have a hard time with that.

As I said on Rivals, I'm cool with an extension at the end of the year if Hawkins meets retention criteria and agrees to locking in a manageable buyout in case the winning doesn't continue.

What annoyed me about him saying it in that meeting, and a big reason he rubs fans and the people he works with the wrong way, is that it was typical Hawkins being unrealistic and egocentric. Those are his two most annoying personality traits and they constantly get him in trouble.
