Does the WAC still exist?

Did the league fold after Nevada, Boise and Frezneck all left, or is it still around?

I can't remember ever hearing one way or the other.

They seem to be hanging on for the time being and are even scheduled to launch a their own network. I read a rumor somewhere that they were trying to persuade UTEP, Houston, SMU and others to join, but as you can imagine the schools are pretty skeptical.

Six teams left - Hawaii, San Jose State, Idaho, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, and Utah State.

Hawaii is also talking independence, which would be fine if the Warriors (not the Rainbow Warriors, anymore, right??) just want to play in their home bowl, and host a big name or two each year.

Utah State is still looking at joining the MWC. They were invited, along with Fresno State and Nevada, so that might still happen. If so, the MWC would be up to 11 teams, and might take another from the WAC if Houston or SMU can't be lured away from Conference USA.

Louisiana Tech is out of place in the WAC, and always has been. They'll go to Conference USA the next time the conference memberships shift around.

San Jose State, New Mexico State, and Idaho might just try and pick up the pieces and settle for being a lower-tier Division 1 conference, inviting some of the better 1-AA programs to jump up (Montana from the Big Sky is a likely option. Nevada, Boise State, and Idaho are all former members of the Big Sky Conference).

I think Hawaii will actually go Independent as well if I had to guess.

When all this came down (Nevada/Frezneck desertion) the Honolulu Advertiser had their AD, Jim Donovan stating exactly that. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see that happen. BYU will schedule them in a heartbeat.

But who else will?? Especially mid-season? It's one thing to fly to SLC and bus down to Provo for a game in the middle of your conference season. It's another thing to fly to Hawaii, play a game and fly back.

You are right that BYU would LOVE to schedule that game, though.
