Junior College Red Shirt ????

Looking at the depth chart does this mean Richter and Harrington are going to red shirt this year? They are both listed as 3rd string so baring injury I assume it would be best for them to do so.

By that rational should Andre Simmons red shirt this year? I notice Darden is not on the depth chart at this point. I'm not sure why, but he could fill in as 3rd string X-WR, and give Simmons on more year to develop. Would it be better to have Simmons get in 10 plays a game and have 1-2 balls thrown his way, or have him red shirt and get one more spring and fall?

At this point I don't care with regard to Simmons. I'll admit I thought he'd be a factor by this point, and aside from Scotty and Patterson, we return everyone next year and I'd rather have his scholarship available since the 2011 class is already going to be small.

I'm fine with RS Richter and Harrington. I think harrington will be a player yet but word is Richter is slow footed and very stiff so a year to work on that may help but at this point I think he's just going to be depth.

No matter what is going on with Simmons he does have a lot of talent. I would love to see them redshirt him so he can prepare himself for a breakout senior year. I don't know the specifics on him though and what exactly is holding him back.

I would love to hear if anyone knows anything about Darden.

Losing both Patterson and Scotty will hurt. I would prefer to have some depth at WR in 2011 if we can. If we can redshirt him, I think we should. It's good that Richardson won't redshirt, though. We'll need his game experience in 2011. Celestine, Darden, Simmons, Jefferson and Richardson will make a pretty decent WR corps in 2011. Taking Simmons out of that equation creates some depth issues that I'd prefer we avoid.

Highflyer's got it right.

Simmons needs to play this year. And people seem to forget that he may have no interest in a redshirt. He's got a kid that he recently gained custody of who is half way across the country. I'm sure he wants to get his degree and get on with his life.

Richter needs to redshirt. We've got too many OLs in the junior class as it is. He didn't make the 2-deep. He's behind Adkins, Iltis and Behrens to play this year. If those guys went down, I actually think we'd go with Dannewitz, Harris or Bakhtiari/Givens next before we called Richter's number this year.

Harrington's gonna play, imo. (And so is Mahnke.) Cabral likes a deep rotation if he has the horses for it. And he's already got 2 ILBs in the sophomore class (Major and Rippy). I have trouble believing that they'll screw up the class balance and compromise 2010 depth or special teams play in order to get Harrington or Mahnke an extra year. Especially with younger ILBs like Webb looking awesome and Lowell Williams looking like the fastest linebacker in the program, the redshirt would be a waste.

I noticed on the player information that Simmons is projected to graduate in May 2012. I don't know what that is based on, but thought a red-shirt might be an option.

Losing three WRs in one year will create some depth issues in 2011.

We'll have at least four WRs that have taken snaps at the college level next year if Simmons is gone with Patterson and McKnight. That is not too bad IMO.

Doesn't sound like it is a slam dunk that Clemons will stick around if he has a good year.
