something is seriously wrong with that article. we've only played one ranked team and two bcs teams total. no way our schedule so far has been the 10th hardest in the nation

It is messed up because he has Hawaii and California ranked artificially high - Cal in the Top 10 at 3-2. Hawaii in the 40. Georgia has the 19th ranked schedule but has played a much tougher schedule than CU.

He doesn't rank anyone; it's all computer algorithms based upon the raw data so there is no way for anyone to artificially inflate anyone. That's the entire point of computer rankings. The reason that Cal and Hawaii end up so high is that neither algorithm (ELO Chess or Pure Predictor) drags down their ranking. Often, at this time of season, one or the other ranking will drag a team down. If a team has played an incredibly weak schedule (see: Blohio State), it will drag down their ELO Chess ranking. If they get blown out in the only losses that they have, it drags down their Pure Predictor ranking. That's why he combines both.

Moreover, how do you know that Hawaii or California are ranked higher than they should be? The only two games that Cal has lost were to a very good Arizona team and a very good Nevada team both on the road. The loss to Arizona was also just by one point. They've dominated every other competition that they've faced, including a UCLA team that beat Texass in DK Royal. Hawaii has only lost to a USC team that outscored them and us after spending a week away from home.

Prove that Georgia has played a tougher schedule than CU. Why? Because South Carolina and Alabama are highly ranked because someone decided in the middle of the summer that they were good teams and they haven't lost? They both are ranked highly, but what is the marquee out of conference victory for anyone on Georgia's schedule, or anyone on their opponents' schedule? Alabama's 24-3 win over a 3-3 Penn State team? Nobody in the SEC has played anybody besides maybe LSU (who squeeked by a decimated UNC and beat West Virginia) or Tennessee (who got thumped by Oregon at home). We don't have any idea how good any of those teams are, so it's pretty impossible to say that definitively Georgia has played a tougher schedule. I think that at most you could say that they are very close, but 10 vs. 19 is very close.

If it is impossible for the raw data to artificially inflate anyone, then either the algorithms are incorrect or the inputs are incorrect (or both). We are awful.
