And...why I think it's critical that we fire Hawk now.

With CU joining the Pac-12 next year (and especially the Pac -12 south) this is the year for us to really make a killing in recruiting. Here's why:

We are new to the Pac-12 and people are drawn to new things like restaurants, clubs, etc. There are many Socal players who never would have considered going to CU but now that we are "new" they are curious and excited about the idea of being the first guys to be a part of the Pac-12 buffs.

We are part of the highly coveted Pac-12 south division (let's just call it the Socal division cause that's what it is) which means all those 5 star Socal athletes can now play for CU but still be in their "home" division and travel to Socal on a regular basis.

CU is down and will be undergoing a regime change which typically means the new regime's recruits (even the true freshmen) will see a lot of playing time because the existing players often don't have the right skills for the schemes the new regime wants to employ. For CU, the new talent, who will be recruited because they do have the skills to fit the new scheme, will see the field a lot. The chance at early and a lot of playing time can be very appealing to young athletes.

Add to all this the fact that SC is on probation, UCLA is dysfunctional, ASU is beginning its death spiral and U of A...well they're good but, Tucson (nuff said), ... All our recruiting competition is down this year or has major points against them so the recruits are primed to go somewhere else. Hello CU!!!!!!

Put all these together and we have a golden opportunity this off season to bring class full of high caliber players like we haven't had in over a decade. If EB is on the staff, a native Socal-er and a phenomenal recruiter, double so.

This is our year to make a splash. We have a combination of opportunities to sell that SC, UCLA, ASU and the rest cannot come close to matching. But in order for us to capitalize on this opportunity we need to start moving on it now. This means we need to get rid of Hawk, IMMEDIATELY, and put in place at least the leader of the new regime (Mac I hope) so that we can actively begin selling the "new CU" to the socal recruits. This is it, this is our chance. An opportunity like this will not come along again in the next 30 years. One time, one shot. We cannot afford to blow it.

FIRE HAWK and name MAC NOW!!!!

and so is mila kunis. Doesn't mean we are gonna get what we want...

I agree. I think you gotta do it now. I do think this recruiting class is probably shot. But if we somehow pull off a miraculous upset down the stretch with a new HC or interim HC, it will mean something - a feather in our recruiting cap. If Hawk pulls off an upset, it will be meaningless. With a change, there is a possibility to gain a little momentum heading into next year.

I'm eager to join a division that's dominated by one single school usually. That's going to be a great change for us. We're such a dominant force and attention-getter in the vast LA TV market, too.

Let him finish out the year. This season is gone, and we can save a little money that can go to up grading our facilities or hiring a new coach. It's only a few more weeks.
If we hire a young OC , DC or employed head coach, they can't start until after the season is over anyway.

When firing head coaches, I'm all for waiting until the end of the season but with what CU has ahead of them, I think it's very important to have a good start in the Pac-12 next year so I'm supporting an early dismissal for Hawkins.

I truly believe it will happen this next weekend. No insider info just the feeling that they will not let him twist in the wind any longer if this weekend plays out badly for the team in Norman (badly is not just a 7 pt loss, it is getting smacked around pretty hard). This weekend is setting up to be the perfect storm for a disaster as well.

  1. rumors flying around the coach
  2. starting qb out
  3. Defense depleted to injury
  4. OU beaten on the road at Missouri
  5. Stoops 70-2 at home
  6. Stoops pissed and wanting to make a point on Nat TV
On the plus side for the Buffs?????????????????? I got nothing except their pride.

You don't make a change right now to impact recruiting. You're not going to change an entire coaching staff in-season, so firing Hawkins right now means the rest of his staff will still be here. The change is made now to take the first step toward the program moving in a positive direction.

Totally agree with you. The removal will increase interest in the program and I believe they will name Cabral as interim. Even if Mac would be name HC, you let an interim finish the season and let Mac assemble the staff and start recruiting (could start with key players on the current team as much as hitting the road).

The issue with it being mid-season is who is going to be the coach? If you fire Hawk now that almost limits you to Mac or anyone that is currently out of work. The reason you'd get rid of him is to get a new coach familiarized with the program as well as getting a jump on recruiting... however, if the guy is currently employed then he isn't going to be able to come right away. Honestly if its not going to be Mac, then do the interviews quietly during the season, and right after the Nebraska game ends, send Hawk packing and announce the guy the next day.

Interim coaches are named all of the time. Non issue really.
