There is a possibility of Les miles coming back to Colorado, would you be happy about it, or would you like coach Mack back on the sidelines?

This is a discussion I would like to see played out. Subscribed to this thread.

I have stated my case for Leach as the next CU coach but I will be happy to play along for Miles.

People are focusing too much on what Les Miles has done at only ONE stop. People seem to have forgotten that Miles helped turn Oklahoma State around and set the foundation for OSU's continued success under Mike Gundy. Suppose LSU fires Miles after this season, the LSU naysayers will say that the new coach is winning with Miles' players. Dan Hawkins cannot say that because he wasn't at BSU when the Broncos were building the program up. Les Miles can say he has been at places where the program building was taking place and be successful at that.

The man has won everywhere he went and just look at his resume...he is qualified to be a BCS head coach anywhere he sees fits. One man's trash is another's treasure...don't forget that saying.

He can recruit. He helped recruit those great CU players to Boulder under Big Mac. He did that for Oklahoma State out of the Dallas Metroplex (OSU's primary recruiting area) and he has been able to do that at LSU. You have to understand that coaching in the SEC is like coaching under a bigger microscope than in the Big 12 or the Pac-10. I'm sure Miles wouldn't mind coaching with less pressure for a few years.

I'd still hire him even if he ends up going to Michigan down the road because by that time, he would have built CU right back up for the next coach to reap the rewards.

One interesting thing about the Les Miles hire ---- Oklahoma State pretty much forced Mike Gundy on him. There was a pretty large group of fans who wanted their athletic director to hire Gundy at the same time that Miles was hired. Miles' age, experience, and prior stint as the offensive coordinator of the Cowboys led the athletic director to give him the job -- but at the same time he hired Mike Gundy as the offensive coordinator. It was sort of a "best of both worlds" scenario for him.

Then, when Miles jumped ship to go to LSU - they pretty much just handed over to Gundy, and they now have a man, who's 40, as their head coach.

And I just read Miles' Wikipedia page...no one should ever question his coaching ability...his first year at LSU was marred by Hurricane Katrina and yet LSU finished 10-1. I was in MS for some cleanup work and I saw the emotional and mental toll it took on the people from that region. The LSU players were affected by that hurricane because most of them came from that region.

The only downside is that Miles would come to a different CU compared to what CU was like back then.

There will be always politics everywhere he goes and he showed that he can make the best out of the situation handed to him. It shows me that he still can hire the best assistants out there. Now with Miles and suppose EB or any former Buff as the OC, that could work wonders.

At the same time, this could reek of Hawkins coming from Boise State. But Miles was the OC at OSU before he went on a stint with the Cowboys before returning to Stillwater so you can throw out that Hawkins comparsion.

What CU needs is a coordinator and I'm not talking special teams here...I'm talking about an OC or DC. Big Mac was a DC when he was hired. Slick Rick wasn't a coordinator when he was hired. Barnett was a coordinator in his career in addition to HC exprience when he was hired. Hawkins wasn't a coordinator when he was hired. See the pattern here? It should be written into the CU bylaws that any HC canadiate have coordinator experince.

Why would Miles leave LSU?

LSU fans are whacko over the fact that he can't win all the big games even if LSU won the NC under him. LSU hasn't had the kind of success that they recently enjoyed for so long before Saban came aboard.

Just like Saban, Big Mac came from a Big Ten school. Same goes for Miles. Maybe a hint for us?

what is miles record as Lsu? 1 nc and 2 or 3 sec cc's? lots of 10 ten recruiting classes. i'm sure he's not coming here (at least a 2 mil pay cut) but it is funny that some people are against it.

Woody Paige let it drop last week that Miles would come to CU.

The LSU Bleacher Report piece from a couple days ago said that we could get him for $2.5 and everyone would walk away happy.

If LSU beats Alabama this weekend, it's hard to see him leaving. But if he loses to 'bama and then closes the season with a loss to Arkansas to finish 9-3 (4th in SEC West), then I think Miles and LSU will both want to end the relationship.

Miles is my #1 choice.

I'll be supportive of any coach that CU hires, but Miles is on the short list of potential hires that would cause me to get out my check book.

I'd love to have Les Miles as a head coach, but would he seriously leave LSU for us? I just don't see it happening...

But if I was Bohn, I'd make a run for him. What does he got to lose? If Miles turns us down, our second choice should be Gus Malzahn. I think of the two, Malzahn would be easier to snag, but I'd go hard for Miles first. Then Malzahn if Miles says no, which is very likely.

he hates it there... and they hate him... he is very much in play

What on earth makes anyone think he would leave LSU? Yeah so the pressure is tough down there. The guy won it all and is always ranked. Why not Saban or Urb? Think we could get them too? Hell if we are getting those guys then why not Gruden and Durant for Melo while we are at it.

Miles comes up because he has ties to Colorado. He's went on record saying how much he loves Boulder, and how he'd love to live there.

We may be reaching here, but it's not that unthinkable as you try to make it out to be.

Yup, basically it went down like this:

-- OSU president, various academics, half of power alums wanted Miles. In fact, when he left the first time, he was told they'd be calling him. (He apparently left OSU because Simmons had basically gone crazy.)
-- Boone Pickens, various power alums wanted Mike Gundy

Result? Plea bargain between the two sides. Miles is HC because of seniority, age and previous OC position at OSU; Gundy gets OC because Boone wanted him in the coaching staff and Miles was told he wouldn't have a choice in the matter there.

He might not have rushed off to follow Saban if it wasn't for Boone. Anyway...

People I know around here that still talk to him say Baton Rouge is waring him out and bugging his family. I just think they might have reached a point to get out of the insanity of the bayou and head to a place with a slower pace but still home to major BCS football. That place is Boulder and he loves it here.

In the end, we don't really know what will motivate a man to make a career change. It's usually money, but sometimes its not, especially when a guy gets older, is established and has some jack in the bank.
