Talentwise, what does the next HC and staff have to look forward to?

Is the cupboard bare or is there some hope?

My take:

Offense: The next coach will think they can make do with Hansen for one year. TH has shown some positives, but unfortunately his development has been hindered significantly under this staff. After that, Hirschman, Berglund, and Sherry clearly are unknowns. But, there's a real opportunity for the next HC to be able to immediately go after a higher profile QB recruit with the selling point of immediate playing time.

RBs are similar to QBs. Speedy could range from above average to very good in his last year, but after that, there's alot of unknowns. Could Jefferson be a real RB threat? He's got some skill, IMO.

WRs could be a bright spot. Richardson is quickly becoming what we thought Clemons would be. Richardson is a great selling point for the next HC--who wouldn't want to coach that talent? Clemons will be here one more year also, maybe the next staff can get him where he needs to be. But after that, Simmons very well will get his redshirt and be there, and could Jefferson be back at WR?

OL could also be a bright spot. Miller will be a senior (if he doesn't opt for the draft), and several young OL's could bode well: Bakhtiari, Givens, Harris, have potential and several others returning have game experience. Here's hoping the next staff will stop with the musical OL lineups every game.

Defense: The DL could be a very shaky group. I really thought they'd be better this year, but like most players under Danny Paycheck, they're development seems to have been stunted. Maybe Kasa will hit his 5* potential.

LBs still are fairly bright. If Major fully recovers with the knee, he's demonstrated what he can be. Webb could really be something, and I like Rippy also. After that, not too sure.

DBs are another very shaky area. Gone obviously are Smith, Brown, and Perkins. Will Polk become a player along with Orms? Alot of young DBs got alot of game experience this year and there's alot of returning young players--but how many of them, if any, will be something special?

And lastly, we are loaded at kicker and punter--no worries here! Well, maybe some work could be done here...ok, alot of work.

So what does that leave for the next coach? The next coach ain't going to have that big of a first recruiting class, and he'll already be behind the ball because of you know who. So, even though the class will be small, he's got to make the most of it. Makes me think we'll need a truly talented recuiter to get us back to respectability.

I don't wonder if Logan and Mullen could beat Hawk and CU this year. Hawk would be up 78-0 with 4 minutes left in the game, and we'd lose 92-78 to them.

Well, on offense you have some good wr's in clemons, richardson and jefferson, couple good te's and stewart and lockridge. Ol returns 4 starters.

Defense is a big question dl hasn't improved,Ilike diribe,major,rippy,webb. DB's perkins,smith,vigo orms seem good.

Linebacking position is weak and getting weaker. Is Rippy even playing? He has not got in for half the games. We are losing Beatty and Sipili so depth and talent is an issue there.

DEPTH....CU has none. That is the killer.

Our D is going to drop another notch next year. Similar to the dropoff after Dizon & T-Wheat left. Hawk has yet to sign one legit starter at safety. DL - who really knows. Have recruited well at DE, but they're not living up to expectations. With Sip graduating, we're starting to get thin @ LB. OK next year at OL, but no depth and it's not looking good for 2012. RB corps is not terribly talented, and thin. QB - who really knows. I still think Hansen may actually have some talent. The coaching is so poor there's no way to really assess the talent at QB. We might be OK with Hansen and Hirschmann (especially if Berglund stays committed).

Our talent level will be in the bottom half of the PAC next year and even worse the year after unless the next coach brings in a monster class.

The defense is going to be a weak spot in 2011 again and it may be worse. No smith or brown at the corners. Sipili and beatty gone. Welcome to the pac 10!!!

with a new staff, the team wins 6 next year and sneaks into the weedwacker bowl. we recruit a top 15 class and things start to look more sunshiney thereafter.

 The D is going to be shaky. First few games especially. Glad were not playing Toledo again.

Honestly the only guy that jumps out at me is Richardson. The guy if he continues to develop could become a first round draft pick. The rest are just bodies. Some are above average talent some are below it.

With a pending coaching change we can't really count on any of these players staying. You just never know. Make no mistake we are rebuilding and we will be for a while.

I'd say the cubbard is bare. A few playmakers sprinkled in with a bunch of low-star recruits who wouldn't start at most D-1 schools.

On D, we have Major and Kasa to build around. That's it.
On O, its Stewart, Richardson and Clemons. That's it.

As long as Dan doesn't pull a Patton and give out a ton of scholarships to guys that dont deserve them we should be good to go as i think we have a larger amount than normal to give out next year right?
