Timetable for hiring new coach

I don't want it too short and I don't want it too long. I want a thorough search. I think no later than the couple days after the Nebraska game. About 3 weeks tops.

Bohn said in the presser that the timeline might be longer than what people were hoping (paraphrase).

A short time line is probably only accomplished with Mac. We may need to be patient.

Most employed coaches are not going to be available to even interview until their current season is done.

EB will be coaching till I think the first week in January or whenever the NFL reg season is over. Dec 1 would be nice but not practical at all.

Can coaches in a contract be announced to take over and finish out their contract with their current employer?

Is this something new? In the past you always had people accepting jobs while they were still an assistant somewhere else. Hell, Colorado's offensive coordinator took the Vanderbilt job in 1990 and didn't even coach in the Orange bowl.

Its possible, but there is still a month left in the regular season. Most of those coaching moves and interviewing happen after the end of the regular season but before the bowl games.

The comment about this taking longer than we want it to leads me to the conclusion that he's thinking of EB or maybe Miles if that's a legit choice. If he wanted Mac, he could put him in place tomorrow.

Publicly yes, but you are kidding yourself if you think the back-channel stuff doesn't happen.

or it could be Calhoun

agree that if we don't see Mac getting hired within the next two weeks Mac
probably won't get the job..

true...but didn't someone say that if it is going to be Mac, that he would wanna get his staff in order?

I would think that if its EB, they will have some sort of anouncement that he is the man as early as possible. He could potentially not be hired until around NSD, that would be a disaster.

I think if Mac were a sure thing he'd already be here. I don't think we can count him out but I think the odds are a little lower with an interim already named.

He's had a year to think about this and 5 weeks to look at candidates at least. He has 3 weeks before recruiting opens back up. That recruiting period is absolutely crucial. No excuse not to have someone lined up and in place by Dec 1.

yeah but... we need to see who is coming available this year. for instance if Mark Richt gets dropped, he jumps to the top of my list...
Some of those announcements won't come till the last week or after the last game.

You don't name Mac the interim, if that's what you're suggesting. The interim job should be handled by Cabral, as he knows the playbook, knows the players, and has a decent idea of what he's dealing with. Mac wouldn't. There's three weeks to put somebody in place by Dec 1, but I get the impression that we won't know anything by then. We might know who's been interviewed, but there may be some candidates that aren't able to be interviewed at that juncture (Les Miles, for one, EB for another). This is what leads me to believe that Mac might not be the guy.

So if we go 3-0 and we have a month of practice before a bowl game BC obviously deserves to coach the bowl but then we lose a month of recruiting with whoever the new coach could be. That would be a really awkward situation for us.

If we go 3-0, I vote Cabral 4 prez!

3-5 WEEKS IS FINE BY ME. Just do a complete search, please. Oh yeah, he hires calhoun I'm going to hit defcon 5.

He needs to be here as soon as conference championship weekend is over so he can hit the trail for recruiting.

Second week of Dec is my guess. Will give time for the process to work. Back channels are already at work and they will have a short list by the NU game. After the NU game, they will move quickly and talk to all on the list. A new coach will want to move quickly as well to get the started on recruiting just like all of us fans.

It depends on the date that Alabama, LSU and Auburn play their bowl game.
Announcement is one day after.
