Subject: Just heard my 1st "semi"credible theory point ing toward EB Posted by: Harvest House on Fri Nov 12 2010 4:20:10 AM Message: Talked to well connected ex player from Mac regime. Bohn knows he
has to make the right hire or else.... This person said Bohn is not
real keen on hiring the Godfather (Mac) to return after 16 years out
of the game. If he is not going to hire Mac, he needs to hire
someone that will keep Mac happy and in his corner, particularly if
the new coach loses early. Three people would allegedly do this:
Miles (unaffordable), EB (best choice), Embree (not as much alumni
support as EB). I guess Woelk was on CJ and Klatt saying it is time
to hire a black coach in Boulder. I did not hear the interview. We
all know Woelk is MB's mouthpiece.

Until this conversation tonight, I had all but ruled EB out as the
HC. Other sources have told me that Bohn is looking elsewhere,
mainly at Mac, Miles, McElwain and Calhoun. Not sure which sources
are correct. Just reporting what I am hearing.

harvest house has been around for a long time. I remember his posts dating back to 2000-2001

I hope he seriously considers getting a group together and putting a package together for Miles and at the same time sits down with McElwain to see what he has to say. We need to keep the search broad instead of just family consideration. I like where his head on Mac is, I love the guy but it has been a long time. The more I listen to CJ and Klatt make their arguments for Mac the more it makes sense not to bring him back.

Agree, I also don't think EB is the guy (I have some sources too).

Harvest House was really big back in the Neuheisel / early Barnett days. He had quite a bit of scoop back then, but has been pretty quiet of late.

I spend some time on Netbuffs and I can tell you that the majority of people that claim to be connected are full of ****.

EB will not be the HC. No OC experience. Too big a jump to HC position. That move would be suicide for Bohn.

EB is the right choice. He IS ready. Hiring EB would be the best thing this program could do for many many reasons.

+1. And if we can get Mac to come on board as an adviser of something as well, then all the better.

There is no reason for this. An "advisor" can't recruit. An "advisor" can't participate in practice or coaches meetings or anything. The same goes for the idea of using McCartney as an assistant athletic director or something. The NCAA has strict rules on contact with recruits and strict rules on the number of coaches a team can have. The only reason to have McCartney involved in the football program is to be a COACH. To get him involved in the day-to-day activities of these football players, and to get him in the homes of these football players with their parents. He can't do any of those things as an "advisor" or as an assistant athletic director.

If you want McCartney to be the big show for purposes of raising money, he doesn't need to be directly involved (i.e. an employee of CU) for that to happen.

You're getting caught up in all the wrong sort of details (i.e. the adviser term). Call him an assistant head coach if you want. My thought process was that I would want him to coach in some capacity, recruit, etc. He would simply also serve as a sounding board for EB (i.e. adviser). This obviously would be a creative position if EB were HC, but I have to believe if Mac truly wants back into coaching he may consider something of the sort.

I would prefer Mac be the HC and EB be the understudy, but I think the combination can be killer either way.

I also think either coach could do very well on their own.

No way Bill McCartney returns to the University of Colorado as an assistant coach. I would be embarrassed if that offer was even presented to him.

I think hiring someone in the Dan Hawkins mold (i.e. no relationship to CU, no BCS experience, etc.) would be Bohn's death-knell.

He probably gets some grace if he hires McCartney or Bienemy.

Again terminology. How exactly do you think it is different to be HC with an HC in waiting (if that is what Bohn and/or Mac are thinking)? Maybe he is thinking it would be fun to coach with EB in any capacity? Maybe he would prefer to work a little less and have EB handle the bulk of the load?

I would also be embarrassed for such an offer to Mac if he has told the AD he only wants to be HC, but I also have no idea what Mac is thinking and what he has told Bohn. I know he has been openly campaigning for the job, so I tend to think he only wants the HC position, but that is pure speculation on my part.

Maybe?? Hell, man. McCartney has come out and said that he wants the TOP JOB. There's no speculation there.

He's won a national championship. He won his conference several times. He is the winningest coaching in school history. And you want him to take a job as an ASSISTANT coach??

Come on. That's an insult to McCartney.

I am aware he has come out and says he wants the top job. I am also aware that he may not be given such job as he deserves. However, I am hoping that if he is not given the job, that maybe he might want to be involved in the program somehow. I don't really care in what capacity so long as it makes him happy.

I also have no idea what discussions he's had with Bohn in any regard. And based on your posts neither do you. If you do, then please enlighten.
