We've occassionally gotten excited through our speculation regarding CU's next Offensive Coordinator.

Certainly a new head coach will want to bring in his own.

However, might Coach Kiesau be the right guy for the job?

He knows the players, and allegedly they respond well to him. He maintains a reputation as a solid recruiter.

But more to the point, after two years on the job, we don't really know what he's capable of. That was my lesson from last night.

Last night, we saw new formations and a different playcalling philosophy. Coincidence, or has Coach Kiesau been so shackled by Dan Hawkins that he's been unable to run things his way (which has been the speculation on this board for some time).

I doubt Brian Cabral was--in just five days--able to influence the offensive game plan. He would have been reliant on everybody doing their jobs, while he tried to right the ship emotionally.

So last night we saw Kiesau unchained for the first time (metaphorically speaking you sickos--namely dply and rugged). It wasn't bad.

Furthermore, he holds a mulit-year contract. Would he be an inviting OC candidate to a new HC?

I think your arguments are worthy of consideration. I'll be interested in seeing how the entire staff does the last two games of the season. While I think some will still need to go perhaps more could be kept than one might have thought a week ago. I also think the idea of Cabral should not be immediately dismissed.
 
I think that Kiesau has been learning and improving as he's gained more experience. There are still play calls where it's a WTF? type of moment, but I think he's getting better. I'd be okay if he was retained and kept in the OC position.
 
I thought keys did a good job with the play calling. I would think our OC will be whoever the new head coach feels confortable with.
 
Hard to really know how much of the offense Kiesau controlled when Hawk was at the helm....but I can say for certain that yesterday things did look different, there was some creativity in the play calling as well as a good balance in what was called and not being so predictable. Loved seeing some pulling guards yesterday!
 
Like Cabral said in the Denver Po....err, like he was reported as saying, "I don't know anything about offense." So, I would take that to mean that he was pretty much hands off regarding the offense. Now, maybe this was the first time in Kiesau's time as OC where he had full reign.
 
I think Kiesau has the opportunity over these last 3 games to show the new coach (whoever it is) exactly what he's capable of now that he isn't being shackled by the HC.

The announcers last night were especially complimentary of CU and Kiesau in particular...nice to hear for a change.
 
The offense has shown signs of life this year. I'd say from the way they played that the players have given a vote of confidence to Cabral and Kiesau. We still need some kind of power game for putting teams away late and finishing drives.

Warming up to the idea of EB and Kiesau together in some combination.
 
I don't think we have much choice in the matter. He is under contract and I'm sure the new regime will be strongly encouraged to keep him around.

I didn't think the hire would come down to an Allbuffs vote via poll or anything.

It just seemed that there might be mroe to our OC than we realized and wondered if folks thought keeping him in that role would necessarily be a bad thing.

I'd say it wouldn't be bad or great. I'd like to see something different from the guy, maybe a pass on first down?
 
I'll hold judgment until after the next couple games. Unchained...nice.

Still feel that way if our next HC was a big-time OC himself? I'm thinking of Helfrich at Oregon under Kelly and Mike Haywood at Notre Dame under Weis. I'm sure there are other examples like that.

That is the only way I want him as oc. He still made a lot of questionable calls this week (really, going 3 wide when trying to run out the clock? Own up to the fact you are gonna run it and put the extra te in there! )But I wonder if the incoming coach would really even want to deal with someone he doesn't know...
 
No thanks. We need a mostly new staff at the very least, if not a full-on house cleaning.
 
I really want to see a whole lot of new faces. Ambrose and Cabral are the only two I actually want to see return. Kiseau and Hagan I can live with them returning, but I think we could do better. Then again Kiseau is apparently well thought of and if we bring back EB, Hagan could probably learn quite a bit from him as a RB coach.
