Who is your choice for the next CU head coach?

For me, the top of the list is if one of the pipe dream coaches falls into our lap. If we can get Richt or Miles to come to Boulder, that's an easy call to make.

But failing one of those scenarios and being realistic, my top 3 in order of preference is:

1. Eric Bieniemy
2. Mike Bellotti
3. Pat Fitzgerald

1. McCartney or Bienemy
2. Cabral
3. Belotti
4. BCS Conference Coordinator (Venebles, guys at Wisconsin, etc.)
5. Small college guys (Hoke, Al Golden, Calhoon)

I've got 3 tiers. If we can get a tier #1 coach, do it. Otherwise, go with the second tier. I'll be pissed if we end up with anyone at my tier #3.

Tier 1. Pipedream Picks (great success as head coach at high-level BCS programs/NFL Super Bowl coach): Les Miles; Mark Richt; John Gruden

Tier 2. Bill McCartney and Eric Bienemy. I hate calling this "tier 2", because I think if we end up here we'll have made a GREAT choice.

Tier 3. Gary Kubiak; Mike Belotti; Troy Calhoun; Mike Leach; Jim McElwain; Dana Holgerson; Brady Hoke; everyone else.

1. Mac
2. Mac
3. Mac
4. Belotti
5. EB
6. Cabral
7. I llke the ideas of Miles, McElwain and Richt, but none of those guys are coming here.

I'm guessing you're wanting to eliminate the marquee guys who won't work for 2 mil?

1. Bill McCartney
2. Brian Cabral if he wins out
3. McElwain/Smart combo (there's still enough money on the table to double both their current salaries)
4. Alex Gibbs
5. Dick Bumpas
6. Gus Malzahn
7. David Shaw
8. Dave Doeren
10-T Eric Bieniemy
10-T Troy Calhoun

Beg, barrow, or steal the money, but Miles is a great opportunity to turn the program around fast. I think Mac supporters will be behind him as well.

i'd be very happy with miles, Mac, richt, or belotti. i would be happy with EB. i would be content with cabral. i would need some convincing on hoke or calhoun. i'd be pissed with fitzgerald.

with the way things go, it will probably be none of the above.

1. EB
2. Hoke
3. Bellotti

CJ and JK just had one of the BDC writers and he was pumping (not literally) Hoke. I know nothing about Hoke. The writer's one proviso was that he bring all of, or most of, his assistants in order to avoid the same disaster that happened with our previous HC.

Another interesting thing that he said was that one former Denver Bronco GM (Ferguson?) said that Calhoun is the best coach in Colorado, including, at the time, Shanahan. But this writer, whatever his name is, didn't think Calhoun would be a good fit in Boulder ala Jeff Bzdelic who never warmed up to Boulder.

+1 on the above. I am guessing we will continue to hear names floated over the next week. It will get serious the week after NU and we will get to see what all of the smoke has been hiding. I will be pissed if it is an I-25 hire. Flat out pissed. We have the ability and means to do better. This is the chance to make a statement about CU Athletics and we need to make it.

Simple, cut the nonsense.
If Coach Mac says he is interested, then you don't tell him no.
If he doesn't want to do it, then you go after who he says to go after.

Richt lost once and almost lost another time to Hawkins.

1) Miles
2) Mac w/ EB(OC) and Cabral (DC)
3) EB
4) Bellotti
5) McElwain or Malzahn

I would giggle everytime I heard his name. I

That's the idea. Don't know if it's really feasible as Smart has some loyalty towards Saban, but if we doubled his salary...?

You're talking about $1.5 million a year there. There is no way we could get both McElwain and Smart.

Thornburn from BDC. He was relatively sensible, especially when talking about Calhoun.

i think this is both the blessing and the curse of Mac as a candidate. if bohn hires him, Mac instantly becomes the most powerful figure in CU sports since the last time Mac was here. if bohn doesn't hire him, there will be bad feelings among some alums, boosters, and former players. if bohn hires him and he fails, well, that is a very, very tough thing to deal with.

i think if Mac can get them to open up the support a bit and if he goes out and gets the type of staff that the rumors have him assembling, it would be very hard to not go that direction.

Ignoring the unlikely Les Miles talk:

1. Don Treadwell
2. Joker Phillips (may be unlikely as well)
3. Bill McCartney
4. Mike Price (Yes, I realize he's unlikely because of his past and therefore shouldn't even be on this list, but he's a great coach with a good coaching background)
5. Eric Bienemy
6. June Jones
7. Brent Venables
8. R.C. Slocum
9. Sonny Dykes
10. Alex Gibbs
11. Mike Hankwitz
12. Brian Cabral
13. Someone not named Calhoun or Logan.

I honestly don't have anybody who I really want, just a lot of guys I don't want. I could live with any of the following: Mac, EB, Richt, Miles, Malzahn, McElwain, Belotti, Cabral. Some are obviously much more realistic than others.

Guys I really, really don't want include Calhoun, Logan, Barnett.
