I could use some help finding a photo of him.

Also, would love to get some feedback from any western slope Buffs we have on here. Since Grand Junction may be banned from the playoffs this season for working out 8th graders prior to their graduation, there's a good chance that most of us won't get to see him play.

Haven't seen him play, but he's played really well for the Tigers ever since he was a freshman. Problem he's had is that he is yet to stay healthy for a full year. Broken leg, among other injuries... :sad1:

According to Rivals. Not so weird when you consider that it's probably a measurement from his sophomore year. We're talking about a 15 or 16 year old. He'll bulk up. Grand Junction does a good job with its workout program.

Got to have been a beanpole for his sophomore year, though. :smile2:

This is the best I could do for a pic - he's the one still standing if it makes a difference.... :smile2:

Any relation to Alvin Rubacalba, former Buff?

I'm 90% sure the answer to that is yes. But I'm not sure how he's related. I think most likely a nephew....

Alvin came from a pretty big family. I went to school with him, and his uncle, who was a year younger than him, graduated the same year I did....

Heh. Maybe a little too good....

BTW, have you heard any more about that playoff ban? At the time that talk was that it would probably be reduced to probation by CHSAA. I think the meeting where that was supposed to happen was going to be this month, but I haven't heard anything...

Whats this? Interesting.....Go Tigers.

Alvin was at CU during the dark days of the Fairbanks years. His name was so distinctive, I remember hearing it from the PA system. I couldn't tell you what position he played, although I think he was a linebacker.

All I know is what I read online while searching for stuff on Sean today. It seems that GJ self-reported the violation and they hadn't known it was a violation. Also seems to be a feeling that the ban was the penalty that went with this infraction per the guidebook and so it was the penalty stipulated in the letter sent to GJ, but that the penalty was likely to be reduced at the official hearing. That's all I got.

Was about to ask the same thing - he still lives in GJ and would be about the right age range to be dad of an 18-year old:

Nice article. (and in case you think I'm failing at copy and paste, there really are two authors listed at the link.)

GRAND JUNCTION - Sean Rubalcaba was never been more ready for the start of a football season than he was last month.
Two years ago, Rubalcaba was thrust into the starting lineup as quarterback of Grand Junction as a freshman, an unusual request at a Class 5A school.

Grand Junction's postseason ban was lifted.

Here's the some of the preview from tonight's playoff game between #10 GJ and #2 Regis:

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- The No. 10 Tigers will welcome the unbeaten No. 2 Raiders to Stocker Stadium on Friday night in a 5A quarterfinal game.

Grand Junction (10-1) has won 10 straight games since its season opening loss. Over those 10 games, junior quarterback Sean Rubalcaba has accounted for 27 touchdowns and just 5 turnovers

More to come once a link is available... but it sounds like GJ won and that it was the Rubalcaba show.

The postseason ban was lifted a couple months ago, and Junction had already won a couple playoff games (Northglenn and Highlands Ranch).

I wish the way it sounded was how it went. Junction led until about the last 10 seconds. Regis hit a hail mary and won 24-21...

But yeah, Rubalcaba had a big game. 3 TD runs. If not for a fortunate bounce and a last second bomb, he would have led Junction over the #2 team in 5A and to the state semis. Very excited to see what Sean and this team can do next season...

Thanks for the link, bcs. I was hoping someone would show up with a game report.

I didn't go. Been fighting a cold all week and didn't really want to go sit in the cold. But I did listen to the whole thing. Really a great game, Junction made some big red zone stops and had a chance to put the game away after Regis fumbled after Junction took the lead in the fourth. Couldn't quite get a first down, and Regis gets a ton of credit for going 84 yards with 1 timeout and a minute and a half left. The big play of the game might have been Junction going on fourth down right after halftime and getting stopped. Regis turned the short field into the go ahead TD at the time. Still, a great effort for the Tigers. This is really the first time a west slope team has made this kind of playoff run in 5A. And they've got kids coming back to have a great shot at doing it again next year...

SIAP, but I didn't see it when I skimmed:

we have video.
