One of the anti-athletics measures that was instituted in the aftermath of the "scandal" was that the Regents' athletic board was disbanded in 2006. I think it's an incredibly positive development that we'll have 3 Regents focused on CU athletics now.

:woot:

The University of Colorado regents on Friday approved a measure that will reinstate an athletics board committee to monitor compliance with NCAA rules and student athletes' academic performance.

Despite opposition from the Boulder campus’ leadership, the measure passed on a 5-3 vote.

Is anyone loving this string of good news for a change? We are going to be back baby now Bohn get us a knockout HC!

Disbanding the committee that oversaw athletics because there were problems in the athletics department was a stupid idea in the first place...

It is a very successful tactic for some.

Not sure how to react to the article.
The athletic board meets three times a year.
The discussion was around GPA by sport.

What expectations do the voters and fans have for this committee?
If I were to write a note to a regent for their support in providing a new video board or indoor practice facility, would they care?

In short, Bohn wouldn't have had to go through Phil and Bruce to fire Dan last year. He would have gone straight through the Regents committee.

You guys are MISREADING this. This is awful news. Regent Bosley voted AGAINST this and he is the #1 pro-Athletics Regent we have. This adds another layer in his words. Now for Bohn to make a decision he will have to have a committee debate it for 2 months.

Bosley has told a lot of Buff Clubbers that this was very bad news if it passed. I'm not close to it but my big donor buddy is pissed as hell and definitely not celebrating AD mgmt by committee.

That's what I was thinking when I saw that he voted no on it.

The extra layer is a good thing, imo. Because the 3 Regents on the athletics committee will be sticking their neck out with voters. If athletics doesn't win (especially football), people are likely to hold them accountable in elections. Neither the university president nor the campus chancellor face that type of pressure in regard to athletics. I see this as the AD being less dependent on the luck of the draw of having pro-athletics university heads.

Looks to me like a reactionary committee, not a visionary one.

I'm not expecting much strong leadership coming from this group.
Regents are elected by Colorado voters who have proven time and again to be indifferent and even hostile toasted the achievements of the football program.

My guess is that the number one priority will be to wrap knuckles when bad press is visited upon the athletic department. I don't see any of these elected officials sticking their necks and reputations on the line in the pursuit of national championships.

This is the nature of committees made up of mid-level elected officials.

From what I could see, they haven't filled the committee yet. A lot of the success/failure of this could depend on which three regents end up on it. I would really like to see Bosley get one of the spots....
