The Wheels are off in Minny... EB is More Available

So does this help us or hurt us? Might Frazier give EB the OC job or keep the current OC? Is it an interim thing or will they flush the whole staff at the end of the year?

What is more valuable on a coaching resume? an OC job with the Vikes or a HC job with CU?

Depends on if he sees his future in the NFL or at the College level.

I read an article earlier tonight where one guy said that this might be the offseason where most teams are going to look at in-house candidates due to the uncertainty of the current NFL CBA.

Would this now make EB more willing to join the Buffs as an OC since he may not be employeed for very long?

I imagine, if he wants to be here, it helps us to get him earlier than might have been possible otherwise.

From the sound of things, HC at CU is his dream job. I don't see him turning down if offered. Now, if they hired someone else and wanted to bring in EB as an OC, he might stay at Minny if the same opportunity is offered.

Why on earth do you want him up in the booth? Frankly, his skills are much more in line with a HC and face of the program than calling plays. Besides, that is going to be up to the next HC who the OC is going to be.

I think the bigger issue for any NFL assistant is the labor uncertainty. If there is no new contract, assistant coaches are likely to be paid less during any work stoppage. Eric might choose the certainty of a job at CU over the uncertainty of what might happen in the NFL at Minnesota or anywhere else. The question is whether the Committee and Bohn are convinced he is ready or can become ready soon.

I think with the situation going on in Minnesota right now it would be prudent to see how Bieniemy has performed in this type of environment. Eric is in a difficult coaching situation so his maturity (or lack thereof) should have been evident these last few weeks.

If he has handled this turmoil with class, then we need to take a serious look at him. If he has hindered Childress in any way, then maybe he needs more time to develop.

All of this based on speculation but I think he comes to CU in a heartbeat if asked.

I think Frazier is pretty close to a lock to get the job there for a lot of reasons. Eric being offered the OC job would depend on if he is one of Frazier's "guys" or not, that I have no idea of. Either way the NFL is likely not to be playing next year due to the contract situation.

I also think, regardless of how good a coach Frazier may be, that the Minnesota situation is a probable pit for the coaches. They put all their eggs in the win a superbowl with Brett basket and now that it is unravelling they are going to have a lot of holes to fill soon. It may not be a very happy or stable place to work for the next couple of seasons.

It is also not cast in stone that the OC has to be in the booth, this is normally the case but not always. If EB came as an OC he could put someone else up there as his "eyes" and coach from the sidelines where I agree his presence would be much more valuable in other ways.

Why would he come back to CU if not head coach? Some of you overthink things

Might be a head coach in waiting deal. Mac for a couple of years with EB getting ready to step in.

Not saying I am in favor but it has been tossed around a lot.

EB knows that, like with all coaching changes, his future with Minnesota is up in the air. NFL teams tend to turn over the entire staff. EB has some pretty good cred as a position coach so he would probably get snatched up pretty quickly. That being said he's probably a lot more amicable to taking a job at CU.

Plus, I don't see any reason that Frazier would elevate EB to OC. Minnesota has an OC, Frazier is a Defensive Guy. He's not going to name a RB coach who's had a bit more of a title (maybe more, maybe a title) for just a half a season to his OC. Maybe he would if he thought the OC was the issue and EB was the answer, but there is absolutely no information to indicate that.

EB will remain with the Vikings in his current position while he learns more about running an offense, not just the RB position -OR- he will be fired along with the rest of the staff. EB won't know that until season's end most likely.

The HC firing in MN only diminishes EB's reasons for staying in MN. It does NOTHING to improve it.

unless EB is one of Frazier's guys

In a perfect world EB comes here as the OC/HC in waiting. You keep Kiesau as the QB coach, and have him up in the booth. He has been doing it for two years at this point and seems to finally be getting a feel for things up there. If you can keep Rob Prince as the WR coach, he and EB on the sideline will really motivate some people. Add a new o-line coach and TE coach (Embree?) with EB right in the mix of things could be a very dynamic sideline.

As for RB coach, I wasn’t too sure about Hagan, but I will wait to pass final judgment after NU.
