Bohn to meet with former players

Bohn says he will meet with former players about the coaching search, has anyone heard of names?.

They are meeting today. The names I have heard are the usual suspects, including: Klatt, CJ, Alfy, Figures etc.

It's great that the former players care enough to meet with Bohn, but they are not the ones whose job is on the line if the next coach fails.

I hope the players are willing to fall on the sword and take some blame if Bohn is pressured into hiring someone from "inside the family" and it doesn't work out.

No former players on the committee

There are rumors of a second committee that has been around for a year plus including former players and ad officials. god knows if that is true though.

A committee to oversee the search committee who in turn provides input to the AD, who then gets feedback from boosters and local media/ former players, after which candidates are discussed with the Chancellor who reports to the University President. The President, Chancellor, and AD then meet with the Regents to get their blessing. I like this sytem and don't see any way this could go wrong...

You make a valid point, but just in case, I think a committee needs to be formed to analyze your conjecture.

Got that feeling too but I hope the players that show up put so much pressure on Mike that he will just make an inside the family hire.

Again, why place arbitrary conditions on the hiring process? What does it mean to be "inside the family" anyways? Former player only? Formerly on a coaching staff? Neu could be considered an inside the family hire.

You make a good point, i dont know that the players are all that organized. If they really try to bring some pressure to bear it will likely descend into a yelling match between the old pro-mac camp and the young Pro-EB camp.

uuhhhhhhh....I know EB coached too, but the "old Mac camp" and the "young EBcamp" would intersect with the guys who were EB's teammates, and almost all of the members of those camps worked with Cabral

I hope nobody puts any kind of pressure on Mike or anybody else that leads to anything but the best possible candidate, whoever that is or whatever his background is...

I'm just glad Bohn is asking for input from people that may actually have knowledge and insight about who could be / should be considered for the position. Had this thread been about "Bohn consults with Regents, DeStiff & Benson Burner" regarding who they think should be the next HC, I would probably end up being heavly sedated. By asking the former players, he also gets some good radio PR.

The reports about the meeting, both in the dp and the camera, sound positive. It sounds like Bohn and Clough took the appropriate stance- not making any guarantees about former buffs, but also asking former players about the qualities a coach needs to succeed in Boulder.

The more I hear from Clough, the better he sounds. It also sounds like Bohn handled this well. Props to all involved.

I'm really glad so many players came back to meet with bohn and show him and clough how much they really care about the university and the football program.

This is ironic, isn't it? I remember when Hawkins was hired, he made a big deal, publically, about involving former players in the program. If I remember correctly, he stated in the papers that he'd reached out to former players. Now, I don't know if the players gave him the cold shoulder because he was an outsider or if he was blowing smoke. But, I guess, in the end, he certainly did get former Buffs involved, didn't he? I don't know whether to  or

Interesting. I'd forgotten about that.

Hawk also said it was the player's decision to lose the names on the jerseys. And it was certain player's decisions to switch positions.

He sure didn't welcome us in at the UGA game. Last year we went in the lockerroom at pregame for Nebraska, no such invite for UGA.
