All-time Big 12 team announced...

Must have been voted on by the media from the south.

Jordan Dizon was a runner up for the Butkus and a two time all American. No way he is not a first teamer at LB.

Gurode has been a better pro than some expected (pro bowler, etc.) but again was an AA and a first round choice.

Actually looks pretty good. I would put Daniel Graham ahead of Chase Coffman, but that is about it.

Those LBs are straight nasty.

Dizon, gurode and graham would be my complaint...

Coffman was a pass catcher - an oversized wide receiver if you will. Graham was a better overall TE - athletic pass catcher and punishing blocker. He got jobbed in the vote.

I will agree on Graham as well as a better all around TE. I can however understand Coffman getting the nod due to much higher recieving numbers and playing on a more recent team that got a load of publicity (doesn't mean he is better but more in the eye of the media guys who vote.)

What did they poll only 25 year old media members from Oklahoma and Texas? 1997 Nebraska team is massively under repped, top ten team of all time and they put zero on the team?

All of the 4 LB's they chose have better resumes than Dizon. All but Nguyen won the Butkus, along with many other awards.

I really do not have an issue with the LB selections. It just happens to be a very stacked group.

Looking at the list of those polled, and it becomes clear why the list is slanted like it is:

7 voters from Texas
3 voters from Oklahoma

2 voters from Colorado
1 voter from Nebraska

Along with all the Buffs, I would argue Aqib Talib got jobbed too. He's the only cornerback I can remember teams actively avoiding his side of the field a la Champ Bailey. I would easily put him 3rd behind Newman for Defensive Backs, maybe even 2nd.

I guess those Texas voters don't think much of Mack Brown. Bob Stoops took it in a landslide.

The DL is even more stacked, IMO. Orakpo, Harris, Wistrom and Suh? Damn. :wow:

True. They're both stacked. Lots of guys in those groups who are starting on Sundays.

Could not be anyone other than Bob Stoops. He has way more Big 12 titles than anyone else.

where is Chris Brown?

Didn't play enough to be considered IMO. Remember he was a JC transfer that sat out most of the 2001 season until the Nebraska game for being in Barnett's "doghouse". He had a monster year in 2002 and was on pace for a 2,000 yard season before getting hurt and didn't play the last three games.

Kinda like the Terrell Davis of the Big 12.

I would easily put Dizon ahead of Nguyen and possibly ahead of one or two others as a college LB. Dizon was a force on a team that had less talent around him than the others on the list had.

No insult to the others because all are very good LBs but considering the situation and as an all around LB I can't keep Dizon off.

I completely agree. I just think it is interesting that all those Texas voters snubbed their "savior" Mack Brown. I'm sure WhornBuff is fuming.

Wow. Just wow.

This is not intented in any way as a slam at Nguyen, he was a great college LB but Dizon did more things and better than he did. Nguyen had a huge advantage of having a load of talent around him as well compared to Dizon. Even with offenses scheming around Dizon he had a ridiculous amount of tackles against the run, could blitz, and was way more effective in pass coverage than Nguyen. I would have been very happy to have either one of them but if I were picking a guy to count on in a variety of defenses, everything else being equal I would pick Jordan.

Matt Russell won the Butkus in 1996... He should have been right near the top.

Victor Rodgers should have gotten a few votes. Koy Detmer was the best QB and Rae Carruth the best WR in the Big 12 in 1996.

Richie Incognito getting a vote? didn't he just get kicked off the team, transfer to Oregon and get kicked off again?

I agree with most all of the comments here, but in a way, this kind of poll is somewhat like casting votes for the pro bowl. There's always players who got voted in as #1 at their position who may not have deserved it when someone else did. Then again, with most of votes in this poll coming from the south, no one should be too surprised with some of the selections.
