Big day for Smith
True freshman safety Terrel Smith unofficially set a school record Friday with 17 total tackles. The number won`t be official until coaches review the film, but if its holds up, it would break J.J. Billingsley`s record of 15 tackles in a game by a true freshman and it would tie the overall freshman record held by Matt Russell.

He was everywhere yesterday. Reminded me a bit of Sykes' performance in Lincoln when he was a freshman.

Well good job by him but the last thing you want is a safety making 17 tackles, that just shows that the d-line and linebackers did not get off blocks and make plays.

Agreed. Glad he provided a "stop-gap" for us, because it could have been worse without him stepping up. But the LB play was extremely disappointing.

Our D took a major nose dive after Perkins and Major left a whole right down the middle. Major was having an all Big 12 season. Heal up man.

I think we need to look at a more aggresive style of defense i cant stand just watching 3-4 guys trying to rush the passer everytime and teach them to get off blocks.

We really need to figure out how to use what we got in a more effective way. Our DE's and OLB's are too slow to be "read and react" players. Our DT's are too small to be effective in a 3-4 or hybrid like we have been using.

I wouldn't mind seeing Pericak move to DE next season if we can get Bonsu back healthy. Hartigan and Uzo-Diribe are just too small to play as down linemen, they should be used as stand-up rush LBers.

But, our secondary will be a bigger question next season with the loss of Jimmy and Jalil. With a healthy Orms, Ewing next season alongside Terrel Smith and Ray Polk at the safety spots; then we need to move Deji Olatoye and Jered Bell back to CB.

Smith and brown didnt make many plays and brown just could not find the ball once it was in the air. they need to let uzo be a pass rusher.
