Interesting article on the Big Tex conference being idots for ignoring TCU.

sports talk radio is blowing up down here. Beebe is seen as, (a) a servant of Dodds, (b) a total moron, or (c) satan in the flesh. They've been hammering the bigMac conference for not even trying to get TCU and one other team (most sentiment directed towards Boise, but other names mentioned too).

No way does the Mac10 survive another 3 years. You know that Mizzou would still love to leave, and after almost getting left for dead KU should be exploring any options that would put them in a conference.

If the Big12-2 manages to land Notre Dame and BYU, then they'd come out ahead.

Notre Dame = Prima Donna with NBC contract. Nat'l viewership. Played a regular season game at the Alamo Dome for Touchdown Jesus's sake.

BYU = Scorned Psuedo Prima Donna. Brings a pseudo national base as well.

Both have higher value than TCU.

Some network affiliation between UT, ND & BYU = $$$$

Big Tex land ND? And magic unicorns fly out of my butt all the time too!

No matter who the Big Tex is able to get in the future nothing will solidify that conference unless it is made up of all old SWC conference schools. The north schools and anyone new will always bolt for greener pastures if offered. It is a flawed conference being held hostage by one school.

Don't disagree. The 'if' is a mighty big if.

But that's one way Beebe could save face.
Based on how he botched the B12 conference, he doesn't appear to be the guy who could lead the B12-2 to the promised land.

And most of all, screw 'em. Screw 'em all. It's good to be free of that hell hole.

The conference is just the tex wants it so they can have the longhorn network i do not think it will change anytime soon.

The Big 12 was smart to pass on TCU because TCU brings no new TV sets to the equation and plus TCU has wanted to differinate itself from the other Texas schools so TCU to the Big 12 was a non-starter.

agree. UT, ATM, and OU probably all 3 have more grads working in DFW than TCU. Also, in my opinion, while TCU is making a big commitment to football ($$$), there's no guarantee or historical continuum of success at the highest level to point to that guarantees TCU is a "player" in 5 or 10 years or when Patterson takes another job or retires. They are awful in hoops, the other revenue sport.

TCU doesn't have a good history against the Big 12 South...they would be dead within 5-10 years.

I think it'll be either KU, Mizzou or aTm that blows up the Mac10. None of them are happy under the new regime.

The day Notre Dame joins a conference, and gives up their giant TV contract, is the day they can no longer schedule. Which almost happened a decade ago when the non football sports were really struggling to fill their schedules. Enter the Big East and their lame decision to let them become a partial member (which they now should end imho). The article below is older from last April where fear existed of another Big East wave of departures.

As for the Texas 10, yes, they are totally a bunch of tards. If they had moved their offices so far south and inserted their heads so far up UT's ass they might not have lost Nebraska and Colorado. The conference clearly needed to be realigned to help the North become more competitive. But more importantly, like most divorces, this was more about money (and the unfair distribution of it) than anything else.

If ND thinks it is too good (academically) for the Big Ten, there's no way in hell they join the Big XII (which is that much worse without CU). They might discontinue the football program before they do that.

I think it'll be either KU, Mizzou or aTm that blows up the Mac10. None of them are happy under the new regime.

aTm is the most likely, Mizzou wants out badly but the Big X doesn't want them and they don't have any other BCS options (unless their is a major re-shuffle involving the Big East and the ACC making huge changes) KU is in worse shape being a great BB school but having virtually no value in football and being locked at the hip with KSU which is the same minus the BB appeal. Mizzou's only hope is if the Big X decides to go to 14 or 16 and needs a geographical partner school. This only happens if ND decides join and even then Rutgers or Syracuse might be in front of Mizzou.

aTm has a huge fan base, has money behind it, and has had enough success to be valuable without being a long-term threat. If the SEC can shake OSU loose from OU, a combination of OU and aTm would be very appealling

Unless somehow ND can be convinced that via a creative revenue distribution scheme they would make more money in the Big XII than going alone. This might involve creative distribution of conference revenues plus ND having broadcast rights on a certain number of their games like Texas would have in the same set up.

I don't know why everyone still thinks the NBC contract is the main reason why ND is staying independent. During the whole conference carousel thing, someone did the math and ND could make way more money in a conference than they do right now. I don't have any of the numbers or a link but I definitely remember that.

I think there is a much higher chance of Texas going independent in football like Notre Dame, and now BYU, then either of them joining a conference full of Texans and Oklahomans.

In addition to the $, NBC provides the Irish with great national exposure. Plus, many Domers still take pride in having an exclusive TV deal with a major network. So lots of intangible value besides the dollars.

There are 16 million reasons against A&M switching conferences.

Yes and about 22.5 million good ones for them to switch plus one huge one.

The 22.5 is the average payout I have seen projected for the SEC next year. Of course the Big XII deal to keep the league together supposively included aTm in the group guaranteed 20 million but they may see that as a temporary thing if the league folds and/or Texas goes independant.

The other huge plus would be moving from a Texas controlled conference into one that is much more stable and higher profile. If the big money guys behind aTm want them to move and the buyout is an issue I am sure that they could "come up with the money" somehow to make it happen.

I am certainly not predicting that aTm will leave UT and the Big Texas conference and there is a lot of political weight that would resist that move but at the same time I think it is a lot more possible than some people might think.

With ND's academic standing, I just can't see them joining the remianing B12 schools. ISU? Tech? OSU? OU? KSU? Just can't see it.

Why do that when they could tell the B10 to take them and Texas and it would happen immediately?

MTN, I think you are correct. Ii think KU/KSU come to the realization that the football thing just isn't gonna work as the butter knife and they join a BB first Conference to butter their bread.

Golden, I read a number of places that it is really the Alumni that is advocating staying Indy. Judging by theor Endowment(no, not that kind), it is wise to listen them. Said that status kind of defined them. Monetarily, the B10 would be far more profitable to them from a sports standpoint.
