Finally got fed up with all the naysayers about EB's (and for that matter, Embree's) lack of coordinator experience so I decided to do a little research.

OK - I'll give it to the naysayers, of the current BCS Top 25, 21 of the coaches have had past coordinator experience.

BUT....FOUR HAVEN'T, and a couple of the names are interesting:
#4 Stanford - Jim Harbaugh - I think quite a few people here have expressed their feelings that Harbaugh would have been a great hire if there was even the slightest chance

This one surprised me...#6 tOSU and Jim Tressel.
then
#17 Nevada - Chris Ault
#25 - Northern Illinois - Jerry Kill

So while the numbers don't lie, the fact remains that just under 20% of the current Top 25 BCS coaches have no coordinator experience whatsoever. I think with Scooter, we have an excellent chance to help that percentage go up and like Mr. Sweater Vest, win an MNC to boot.

BRING ON ERIC "SLEEPING WITH" BIENIEMY AS THE BUFFS' NEW HEAD COACH!

that is all...:smile2:

Poor examples Navy, your first two had Head coaching experience and had previously built winners.

#25 - Northern Illinois - Jerry Kill

like the name. you can go somewhere with a name like that. that is an attention getter. phone book Kill, Jerry. headline, CU to Announce New Head Coach to Take on the Pac-12, Kill.

how is his hair?

I was strictly going on no coordinator experience. The argument being tossed around here was that you can't possibly be a successful HC without having coordinator experience at some level.

Also, why couldn't EB be just like Harbaugh and Tressel and build a winner here? Be a hell of an accomplishment just like them, plus he's do it at the BCS level on first time.

you can not seriously be comparing EB to Harbaugh and Tressel?

Pull the wiki's on those guys, they've won at every level and been head coaches previously. Sure they may not have been an OC or DC but they were the actual head guy, they managed OC/DC's knew what to do how to handle it and cut their teeth where it counts less. EB was none of any of those things, and your asking him to step in and learn how at the top level not in the lower leagues like they did.

Please read above...
OK, so it was at the mid-major or I-AA level, but the point remains - each of those 4 coaches HAD NO COORDINATOR EXPERIENCE before taking a head coaching job.

Not exactly a minor point though. I am just fine with Bieniemy being HC, but this is not the best argument for his candidacy IMO.

each of them had no astronaut experience either.

GDamn right I am. Military does it to unsuspecting slugs like Wally and I all the time by putting us into leadership positions we think we're not ready for, yet we manage to do pretty well.
Hell, I'd be willing to put money on Scooter coming in a doing a better job than McDoosh at Denver and THAT is the highest level.

well, that is not bad hair. that is just no hair. i would rather be in the no hair camp (i am) than the bad hair camp.

now, his teeth....

and the 'stash.... well that aint no brian cabral 'stash. at least bc has the good union goon 'stash.

yeah. CU should keep looking. he needs a make over. looks like a nice guy though.

And I'm just trying to make a point, basic as it may be. The overriding opinion around here seems to be that there is no way anyone can be a successful HC at any level without first having had OC or DC experience. Had that been true neither Harbuagh, Tressel, Ault, or Kill wouldn't be where they are now. Although DeKalb isn't exactly a garden spot.

Using history to judge the potential of another man is not smart. People are individuals and all bring a different skillset. I don't know how the guy interviewed but if he gets the nod he did something right. Being an OC for 3 years at random state U isn't going to help you one bit when you are in the living room of a 5 star or when you have 4th and 3 with 5 min to and down by 4.

well, if you aren't gonna have hair, gotta have good teeth. I rescind all concerns about EB's candidacy. Now, what about JE?
