Why no public outcry re: Bieniemy?

The faculty has already attacked McCartney's return -- why are they silent on Bieniemy?

He had an altercation with a fireman or something (admittedly I don't have all the facts right) while he was at CU.

After graduating from CU, but before he returned to the Buffs as an offensive assistant, he had another altercation, I think it was with a campus police officer, which ended up with him being "banned from campus" for a period of time.

He had a DUI while he was an assistant coach for the Buffs.

So why haven't the faculty jumped on Bieniemy, so far?

Fireman thing is actually BS it occurred but the circumstances are really ****ty and we'd have all did what EB did. The Chokign the parking attendant, brawls at CU, DUI, implicated involvement in the scandal are more serious. As for why no faculty out cry? most like dont know or are afraid of being called racist.

So, you're a no on EB..?

Oh no-- I would love to see EB get the job. I am just surprised that no one has said anything.

To me, one's acts are much different than one's speech. I am much more tolerant of a person who makes statements I don't agree with, than a person who gets in trouble with the law. But that's just me.

The PC crowd is being hoisted on it's own petard. Abs said it above.

Your big words frighten me!!

For the same reason that the Sec Defense called some nutbag asking him not to burn a Koran, yet we can have the Smithsonian host Ant Jesus, or some other crap but should not be offended, instead embrace free speech.

We live in a world of hypocrites.

Fair or not, right or wrong...the fact that EB is a minority means people are treading on very thin ice in the PC world if they attack him.

Unless the firemen and parking nazis of the world are going to write letters about him, he's safe.

Conservative bible banger threat > Bad ass head banger threat.

The "Brawl at CU" was justified IMO. If you know what happened it is a non-issue. The guy that got thrown through the window deserved what he got.

The DUI thing worries me as being the target for the anti-football crowd... The best thing they could do is nearly immediately after he is hired, start some sort of anti-drinking/driving campaign or support/help group of some sort aimed at students and let EB put his name on it in some capacity. See if he would show up at a few of the groups and really make a stand against it. Make it known that he has owned up to it, and how important it is to use a DD.

I suspect if you beat the mob to the punch, it will be a non-issue. Who knows might even reach someone too and prevent something bad from happening somewhere.

A healthy relationship with Boulder's academic department is key.

Bienemy can recruit them, but they still have to qualify and remain academically eligible. Never hurts to maintain good academic affairs. Can EB do that?

No one but the player can execute. On and off the field.

not a sexy, politically charged answer but is closer to the truth than the fear of reverse racism angle.

most faculty don't know who Eric Bienemy is yet. 85% of the faculty were not here in 1990 and they certainly aren't "up" on their great college running backs. If he is named, the incidents will come out, THEN there will be complaint. if the AD was smart, they'd wait until finals end to name EB (if he's the guy) and let the December vacation take the edge off. faculty won't be thinking about the football coach with 3 weeks of vacation (many leaving town altogether).

when they come back, or re-orient to CU matters...EB has been coach for a month, established.

regarding the academic side of things, can't the AD hire a few more tutors to help out? Especially if we're supposedly going to be saving money by going with the family/inexperienced hire, there should be money to bump up the academic support side of the equation.

On the other hand they'd have 3 1/2 uninterrupted weeks to make trouble, dig for dirt, and get it into the media. Better to do it now and seal the deal before they have the time, imho. EB has a checkered past so we should expect dirt to come out one way or another.

The player is recruited by the coach. The coach places emphasis on GPA, study hall and using academic services.

It's this type of situation where previous HC experience counts. The HC job is a combination of football knowledge and politician.

I don't question EB's football knowledge and passion. It's the political skills I wonder about. CU and the NCAA are both bureaucracies that frankly suck. If EB works within a sucky system, it would better than pissing off the legions of bureaucrats with Napoleon complexes.

So far as the Boulder activist crowd go - they won't care about EB unless he wins football games. Out of sight, out of mind. In their twisted little world free speech is worse than actual violence, and they always give minorities special dispensation.

They do have an axe to grind against football in general. They see it as violent and a scion for male culture. I think they'll sit on the ammo and only use it if CU football starts to take off again. Then they'll wait until some minor infraction comes along, make an outsized stink about it in the press, and pile EB's baggage on top to seal the deal. Only way to get around them is hire Katie Hnida for HC or dump football. JMO.

Answer: Faculty's ready for Thug U to come back if it means some W's. They're as sick of losing as we are.

You can't fix stupid. You can't keep them from carrying guns, staying out of bars, or from assaulting other students. Or make them go to class. We've lost our fair share to idiotic behavior.

It's not racism if you're addressing the behavior and not the color of the skin. Timbuff told me.

Whatever works. I believe the diversity crowd in the CU community will be so overjoyed that CU is one of a handful of football programs with a person of color as the head coach that they will be uncharacteristically supportive of our football program if EB (or Embree) gets the job.

They'd be right about that, wouldn't they?:wink2:

I tend to view it as cathartic. As humans (males?) we seem to have a need to segment ourselves, as communities, hate other communities and witness or participate in violence. College football satisfies that for me.

If wasn't for football, I'd probably be a violent criminal.

I had to look that one up and this was what Wikipedia said:

As implied by the definition found in the Oxford English Dictionary, a cathartic experience may refer to a process of releasing pent up emotions, for example by listening to music.

In medicine, a cathartic is a substance which accelerates defecation. This is in contrast to a laxative, which is a substance which eases defecation, usually by softening the stool.[1] It is possible for a substance to be both a laxative and a cathartic. However, agents such as psyllium seed husks increase the bulk of the stool.

Which meaning does it have for you?
