The staff

I'd like to see a discussion of the staff, once its announced. Until then, why not speculate. I've seen some of the projections of the assistants. But a thought just came to me while reading the "Is the cupboard bare" thread: Who will the strength and conditioning coach be? Is there a chance Mad Dog comes back? Would that be good or bad?

How about the other guys being talked about, like Greg Brown? Biekert?

I hate to derail this thread  but I just read this
http://www.buffzone.com/ci_16765226
The source said during the interview process Embree told the school search committee he planned to bring former CU running back Eric Bieniemy to Boulder as his offensive coordinator
It is believed that Embree will still take the job even if Bieniemy can't be convinced to return to his alma mater as an assistant coach to his friend, but Bohn and the search committee would like to know who would be the second choice as offensive coordinator if Bieniemy turns down the job.
and it makes me wonder just how much truth is in the rest of Embree's (rumored) proposed staff choices. From reading the daily, I get the impression it might have been a wish list of coaches and not necessarily a true reflection of reality for who would come with him.

My view of the Embree hire doesn't hinge on EB coming here, but if we don't get EB with Embree, I can't help but to think back to the plan for Hawk to bring Peterson with him here and that not happening.

Hrmmmm... Wondering if Embree's staff fell apart after it was leaked and now CU has decided not to offer Embree after learning the Hawk/Peterson lesson previously.

Whoever is leaking this stuff could really be screwing this up. The leak itself could have forced those guys on the list to have a talk with their employers which may eliminate a good portion of the list.

Didn't AZ post the proposed staff first?

Some guy read it to JK and CJ yesterday afternoon off one of these sites. From that point on, you know every person on that list has had a talk with their boss asking them if they are committed to their current job or if they want to leave.

Is that staff a wish list or a reality. No way EB wants to be an OC here with less pay. Kennedy? The others?

Completely agree with you. I was just trying to remember where it started because I agree, whoever put it out there ****ed a lot of people.

Somewhere, members of our AD are in a panic. Are there significant leaks that don't align with the unfolding reality? That is bad. No wonder they're making such a bold statement from AD that there hasn't been an offer (if this is indeed the case).

Hold on guys! Take a deep breath, regroup, slow down and do what you need to do to get a winning staff here. No shortcuts.

Good luck.

EDIT:

But hold on.

Didn't Embree and Bieniemy have a pact? If so, I'd fully expect Bieniemy to honor that pact. I realize that not getting the top job he wanted has to hurt. And I recognize it's terribly difficult to take a pay cut. But a promise is a promise. I hope he's the man that we think he is, accepts his responsibility to his friend, comes to CU and busts his ass for his alma mater as an OC.

If that's really how this is unfolding (complete speculation)--with Bieniemy backing out of a promise he made to Embree, leaving Embree high and dry, I do not want to see the Athletic Department turn around and offer the HC job to EB. No way. He should not be rewarded for screwing a buddy.

Been thinking about this whole cluster. State personnel rules are also involved. You cannot say a guy has the job until he HAS THE JOB. EB can't take the job until he's been offered, and a salary/benefits agreed upon. Can't offer EB until JE's package* is wrapped up. (*don't go there, DBT, not in the mood.)

And so on. They may well have been far into talks with JE by Weds, but it's not an "offer" until both parties agree on the details. So both Mac and Bohn are telling the truth, and the next part is "and if the assistants come..." because their details have to be settled before they are truly hired. And CU can't name THEM until each has been contacted, offers made, details settled. We should have had four days to do this quietly, but for an old man who couldn't keep a confidence to himself.

Mac has pissed me off royally because in his hurry to make this event be all about him, he has meddled in a process that may backfire. Other teams and employers may either get angry at the guys who want to leave, or sweeten deals to keep them where they are. We just handed our gameplan out in powerpoint to the opposing team. Extremely dumb move, but then, Mac may not have wanted anything to succeed once he adjusted to the reality HE wasn't going to be the guy.

I think EB would have been a FAR better choice (assuming all the rumors flying are true). He is generally regarded nationally as one of the true coaching gems and will be one of the best college coaches within a few years. Nothing against JE but I think EB was a far better choice. That being said I DO LIKE JE but he really does need to bring EB with him. Not getting EB back to Boulder would be one of the biggest mistakes CU could make at this point

I'm not sure EB would want to be OC but someone needs to sit him down and tell him that if he truly has head coaching aspirations then he needs to step into a role closer to the HC role with more responsibility, like OC and most likely assistant HC. Everybody needs to start somewhere, some rise faster then others, but he needs to put in his time. Come on EB, join what could be one of the top recruiting engines in the nation!!

rumored QB coach, Walt Harris. gonna make this thread the catchall for Staff discusson, sorry DBT

"I am speaking of Walt Harris, who knows as much about the passing game and teaching young quarterbacks as just about anyone. I was never a big fan of Harris as a head coach when he was a Pitt, but I always respected the way he built offenses and developed quarterbacks. When it comes to quarterbacks, Harris has a Ph.D."

Titled: WH, the Man who can Fix Pryor...

I don't disagree with you, but ..... just remember what happened the last time we picked up a "true coaching gem". Just sayin'. :bounce:

Please. I agree there is a chance Mac may have messed things up. I don't think it is a great one, but it is possible. My hunch is Mac knew something about the process he did not like and thought by saying what he said, when he said it, he could effect change he thought was best.

Sure, we can debate whether he should have said it, or whether it is a good thing, but to suggest he's doing it out of spite becuase he didn't get the job, or he's trying to sabotage the process because he didn't get the job is BS. Mac has done more for CU FB than anybody. And the kind of behavior you describe doesn't fit anything he has done, up to and including suddenly retiring in 1994 when he was on top of the CFB world.

Mac is a loose cannon and always has been. Nothing to do with his coaching or the success he has had, but you never know what is going to come out of his mouth with a microphone in his face.
