Twitter: Hearing that Eric Bieniemy hit a home run during his second interview with CU last Saturday, but Jon Embree hit a grand slam.

What's with the ****ing baseball analogies when discussing football? **** that ****.

Fine. EB scored a TD. Embree busted off a 90 yard TD run AND went for 2....

EB scored the game tying TD on a 60 yard hail mary, played it safe and kicked the XP to take it to OT .... Embree did a Stokley.

EB scored four TD's in the fourth quarter to beat nebraska, but he had some fumbles earlier. Embree pummeled a #1 overall nebraska team 62-36?

I think this brings up a great point about what many called a "courtesy interview" of Embree by Bohn in 2005.

The NFL instituted the "Rooney Rule" to encourage minority hiring in the league. The thinking behind this was that for minority coaches to become head coaches, they have to be exposed to the process and get a foot in the door. It has worked spectacularly in the NFL and 4 black head coaches have taken teams to Superbowls since 2007.

If we look at Embree's situation, we see an initial interview in 2005. Reports were that Mike Bohn was impressed by him in the interview but that it wasn't enough for Embree to overcome the national name hire that Dan Hawkins represented. But this time around, Embree came in as a guy that Bohn knew and had continued to see at Buff functions over the past 5 years. Further, Embree knew what types of questions to expect from Bohn and the committee. He knew what types of things he had to plan for and present.

Therefore, Embree came into his interview with a comprehensive plan for how he would revitalize CU football. He was prepared for the questions about the holes in his resume (lack of the OC and HC experience that Bohn and the committee preferred). He addressed this by presenting an offensive staff that included former head coaches and offensive coordinators who respect Embree enough to come on board as position coaches under him. He also presented how he would strategically go about recruiting at CU, even going so far as having a current list of around 75 2011 class prospects that he believes that he and the current staff had a legitimate shot at making a play for and signing. He laid out his booster connections. He had the resounding endorsement of Mike Shanahan. He had the great relationship with the Denver area media as a hometown guy who also wrote for the Denver Post. He had boosters and former players in the Buff community supporting him.

In short, he came in prepared and he blew everyone away.

You hire the man, not the resume. Not the person who will be immediately popular with internet message boards.

Jon Embree came out of his interview with the people involved in the decision saying that this is the man we need running our program.

Good luck, Jon!

Mike Bohn's grand slams make me nervous. I also think it's very stupid to base a hiring decision solely on an interview. Other things need to be taken into consideration. People in general place way too much importance on a one hour interview

Great!

Well, I hope he's as good at coaching/recruiting as he is at interviewing. I think he has the potential to be, but WE'LL SEE! (Cue 'nam-like flashbacks for AB readers).
