2010-11 Bowl Season announcements

8-4 Temple has been shut out of a bowl COMPLETELY whereas the Insight Bowl apparently passed on Nebraska for Missouri, allowing the Holiday Bowl to set up a Nebraska-Washington rematch.

temple... very sad.

@TUcoachAlGolden
Al Golden
I am extremely proud and sad for the seniors. They have meant so very much to Temple University and the turnaround of the football program.

8-4 Temple beats 8-4 UConn by 14. UConn goes to a BCS Bowl, Temple stays home.

Anyone see any sort of logic here?

There's a couple of major problems with the BCS bowl selection process that everybody is aware of but they continue to ignore. One is there should be a requirement that the champion of each of the BCS conferences should have to be ranked in the top 15 or so in order to qualify for a BCS bowl. If the champion of that conference isn't ranked high enough, then that conference doesn't get an automatic BCS bid.

Another problem they have is the limitation that no conference can get more than 2 BCS bids. This rule makes zero sense.

^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^

I like the ranking requirement

poor rose bowl has to take TCU. Wisco deserves it, but now the bowl has two teams whose fanbases are 1000 miles away, and one of those teams can't even sell out a 45k stadium during an undefeated season.

Average size of Wisco Oline: 320 pounds, 6'4... Average size of TCU Dline, 6'2, 260. This is the kind of matchup that I've wanted to see TCU against all season. I think they are gonna get killed.

Wisconsin is going to run over TCU, Hornfrogs are going to have to peel their D line off the field

I also have Virginia Tech upsetting Stanford in the Orange Bowl

VT upsetting stanford isn't that big an upset. Stanford is solid, but are low on talent compared to other BCS entrants (Luck notwithstanding). VT was a very green team early in the year (hence those two losses), but have gelled well since then. I think VT is more talented than stanford. Should be a good game.

Could be worse, they could have been stuck with UConn. I think the TCU v Wisconsin game will be very interesting.

Espn loves the uconn story but none of them have the balls to say an 8-4 team shouldn't be in a BCS game.

The NCAA needs to be gutted and start over. Get the crusty blue-hairs out and start fresh. Playoff, every other sport in college has this or a tourney, use your effing brains and make it happen.

That has to be the least compelling game on the entire bowl schedule.

No chance. NU already punished them in their shed. Having a rematch is just asinine.

Yeah I agree the rematch is stupid, but I would hardly count out UW. NU is definitely the better team, but they have a few things against them. One is having to beat the same team a second time in the same season, NU is nowhere near the explosive team they were when they first played. Second, bowl game winners are very often determined by who wants to be there more, and I can guarantee you UW wants to be there waaaaaay more then NU does. I think the fuskers will have their hands full.

I can agree with most of what you just said. I just wonder if the team will be pissed right the hell off now and come out on fire against Washington? Looks like the Big XII got one last parting shot from what I'm reading on several message boards..............NU, Iowa, etc.

Some lesser bowls that I am excited to see:

Alamo... Okla St vs Arizona
Las Vegas... Utah vs Boise St
Independence... AFA vs. Ga Tech (triple option fest!)
Insight... Iowa vs Mizzou

Iowa fans are pissed about the Missery match-up. They were excited about the possibility of Iowa vs. NU.

I am sick of corporate sponsors completely dominating the bowl names. What used to be the Peach Bowl, then the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, is now simply the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

That said, I'm glad to see that the Florida Citrus Bowl name is back. Eff Capital One.
