PrepStar ranks Asiata as an "All-American" caliber player as an Offensive Tackle prospect. They also list Colorado among his schools of interest.

Of note, two of the programs that have been of interest to Asiata are Cal and Arizona (especially Arizona). Rivals hasn't re-ranked him nationally since they moved him to Guard, but he is their #1 prospect from Hawaii this cycle.

Is he related to the Asiata the FB at Utah? If so, surprised Utah isn't on the list.

EDIT (addition): St. Louis is Cabral's alma mater

Maybe related, but he only has 1 brother and he didn't play football.

Very interesting info on a Cabral connection. Hmmm.

...yeah but St Louis and Punahou are THE power schools in Hawaii, and they have lots of football alums. I'm not saying Cabral having gone to St Louis isn't nice, but I don't think it's a strong link.

Yes, but...
Since a majority of the kids (aside from the athletes) there end up either 1) going to UH, UH-Hilo, Hawaii Pacific, or BYUH or 2) don't go to college, where you went to HS has a lot more associated with it than where one went to college.

Example: When talking to the locals around there, and you'd ask "Where'd you go to school?" assuming you would get a response of college alma mater like we're used to here on the mainland, the standard answer would be "I went to St. Louis, Punahou, insert HS name here."

Point is, they take pride in where they went to HS ove rin the islands. Don't take the fact that Asiata and Cabral have a connection through St. Louis lightly. It is definitely an advantage to be used in our favor.

This of course assumes that we will go after him.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but why does a 6-5 kid project out to a OG? I was thinking he was more of a OT prospect.

He has recently been moved inside by Rivals and ESPN. I don't know why. When I started the profile, I initially typed "OT" but changed it for that reason. PrepStar has him as an OT, so it could go either way. I tagged the thread with both "tackle" and "guard".

I ran into the same problem nik. I'm not questioning you, I'm questioning the recruiting sites.

Cabral's always out there looking for that Chris Naeole.

C.N. came from Kahuku though. BC would do us all a lot of favors if he pipelined St. Louis, Punahou, Iolani and Kahuku consistently. Those are where all the biggest D-IA athletes come from in football. Mililani/Waianae/Farrington being the next in line.

Yes plz. Really awesome CU students come from there

This year Will be less about position balance and more about getting the best kids possible.

OTs have long arms and quick feet these days. Adkins and Miller make Bahktiari look puny. Time for Valdez to update his ideas in this area! ;)

Some mean mo-fos from those schools. Beatty came from Kahuku - met some of his cousins while buying teriyaki at a church by Matsumoto's on the North Shore after snorkeling one day. Real nice dudes, but you definitely didn't want to face them on the football field. I'm 6'3" and those guys TOWERED over me.

And Waianae? HOLEE ****. When one of the first things you hear as a newly-arrived military haole is "Don't go to Waianae." No more need be said there. They have some mean teams. Although there were separate private and public school leagues over there so they DON'T face other in the state playoffs, Waianae would always get their pound of flesh during the regular season. Punahou, et al hated playing those guys.
Oh yeah - Iolani? Please, nothing but over-hyped p***ies from there. :saythat::smile2:

:asshole:  Dunno how much we are "hyped". Except for our Math team. Pretty sure they didn't lose a single competition while I was there. Those math kids were effing geniuses. As to our other sports, we were often competitive in football (beat punahou's pompous asses a few times while I was there, but always ended up losing to St. louis), and dominant in Soccer. Good in Bball too, as well as water polo. But rarely was the nerdy school hyped as athletic. But **** Punahou. That is all. Pussies.
