Cam Newton. Is he worthy of a top 10 draft pick.....

I thought JaMarcus Russell, Jason Campbell and Vince Young were all sure things in the NFL draft. Collectively, they've been busts. What does Cam Newton offer that sets him apart from these guys? Big, tall, great runner, good arm, winner, team leader, the same as the other three. Given recent draft history, would you avoid him as a GM in the first round?

i say no way he goes top 10. he needs a team that has an established quarterback so they can teach him how to go through full progressions and read the field. in the NFL QB has to go to their 3rd or 4th read, instead of looking at read 1, read 2, or run.

what if the eagles went for him? to allow him to learn under Vick, could be interesting

I wouldn't consider Young a bust. He's just had mental issues. Russell is a huge bust and not sure about Campbell. I think Newton is like Tebow, a work in progress and a project.

He'll be great until he gets busted doing blow off a hookers ass with stolen guns and a bunch of receipts from a vegas sports book betting against his team.

Kids a thug. I wouldn't draft him

In that case, you couldn't draft the majority of them.

Would only draft him if he is willing to convert to TE. He's fast and big and could be a great hybrid fullback/tightend...if he has hands. As a QB...no way....he dominated like Jamarcus cause he had great players in fron tof him and he is physically better than 85% of the college players. Wont happen in the NFL...

I see him as the next Jamarcus at the NFL level. Not a good thing.

I'd draft him in the Top 10 as long as he still wants only $200k for a signing bonus.

holy cow dude, First I can't believe you thought they were sure things, but to admit it later. wow.

Dude, Russell was the first pick in his draft, Young was 3rd in his and Campbell was 25th in his. First round picks. NFL teams who specialize in assessing talent made those decisions. They thought they were sure things. I guess the experts know diddly according to you.

Not only no, but hell no.

The fact that Jason Campbell was ever a first round pick is also very funny to me.

The point of this thread is that these multi-dimensional, dual threat college QBs who dominate in college don't make it in the NFL. Vick is an exception. Brad Smith does part time duty for the Jets. Vince is a nut case, Russell is Ryan Leaf and Campbell is average at best, remember Troy Smith? I would put my bet on Luck and Locker for a first round pick. And Cam, the post about $200K signing bonus, I giggled.

Vince Young's record as a starting quarterback for the Titans is 39-19, a record which does not validate the label of being a bust. I think it is more an ego battle between Young and Fisher. I think Fisher basically hates Young and hates playing him and Vince knows this and does what he can to fuel that hatred.

Newton looks less tempermental than Young, who has some issues. Young has done pretty well. Jamarcus was not a good runner. Newton is an accurate passer. I could see the guy winning nfl games.

I agree with this. Young wins games. Fisher, for all his reputation as a big-time coach has had 6 winnings seasons in the 2,000 years he's been coaching that team.
