Maybe, maybe not. I think the recent (20 year) history of the Pac-10 gives us a chance if we really do have a good staff in place.

Heres some food for thought. In the past twenty years, 90% of all the current Pac-10 teams have at least shared the conference title at least once.

I know the first part of that 20 years Cal sucked, but it's surprising that Tedford hasn't gotten them over the hump and win a conference title.
I hope not. How long did it take Wazzou to end their drought?
Buffs will get one before Utah and I think it'll happen in 4-5 years

Yep, they're the only pac school who hasn't at least shared the conference title the last 20 years.
Compare with the Big 8/12 and theres only a handfull who have won the past 20 years. OU, CU, NU, UT, KSU and A&M. And 3 of those have only won once!
One difference there is that the Big XII had a title game, so there's no "sharing" of titles. Compare that to the Pac 10 - 30 teams with "titles" in the last 20 years....
EDIT: Looking at the Pac-10 history, Wazzu, Arizona and OSU's titles were all shared titles, and Stanford and ASU have only one outright title each. Still, it's more competitive than the Big XII - that part is true....

So the better argument would be the number of Big 12 schools who didn't even go to a title game like Kansas, Iowa state, Baylor, Texas Tech.
And OSU.
That makes sense. See my edit above - no matter how you slice the numbers, the point that the Pac-10 has been more competitive is a good one....
Based on where the programs are today, I'd say that Utah has a better chance of winning the championship next year than CU does. Long term, it's anybodys guess. In general, CU is in a more favorable position to recruit and compete in the Pac 12 than Utah is.

No way Utah wins it next year (CU wont either), but Utah is in for a rude awakening!

we've had this discussion before, and i don't think it's as cut and dry. i mean, every team from the Big XII played in the Holiday Bowl or better (when it was the #3 Big XII and #2 Pac bids) except Baylor and ISU. Over half the Big XII played in BCS bowls in the last 15 years. you can cite the "tougher top to bottom" argument about the Pac, but then you have to factor how strong KSU and CU were at the beginning of the XII and the great years Mizzou, even KU, OSU, and Tech have had in the last 5. i'm glad we are leaving, but the Big XII was a very good conference...NU's irrelevance on the Big Stage the last decade, UT and OU's failures in the BCS game notwithstanding.
i'd put the o/u on CU winning the conference at around 7 seasons. I expect we are around .500 or 7 wins the next two seasons. While we are all (mostly) excited about the new staff, i think it remains to be seen that these guys can recruit and win games. until it happens, it's all faith based on past performance at CU. no evidence for it.
However, there's no "titan" in the Pac right now outside Oregon and we'll see how long Stanford stays at the top (depending on Harbaugh)...USC has an iffy hire in Kiffin, Rick just hired Chuck Heater so he's still recycling the old lineage, UW has some reason to be optimistic after NU wet the bed....but Locker has finished up his 8th year as their QB and will need to be replaced (though i always thought he was overrated or didn't improve much since his FR year). Cal, not a believer really. OSU, UA, ASU 7 win type teams. WSU, sucks. we can be competitive once a few things happen inside the program....like depth, mental toughness, a real offense, physical play etc.
