Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon is expected to meet Tuesday afternoon with football coach Rich Rodriguez, AnnArbor.com reported, citing two people with knowledge of the meetings.

Members of the football team are also scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday to find out if Rodriguez will return as their coach, according to the report.

Rodriguez's third season ended Saturday with a school-record 38-point loss to Mississippi State in the Progressive Gator Bowl. It dropped his overall record to 15-22 with college football's winningest program.

Brandon said a few hours after the game that he planned to meet with Rodriguez soon and expected to have something to announce later in the week.

If Rodriguez is fired, Michigan will owe him $2.5 million to buy out the final three years of his contract.

The fact that a team meeting is also scheduled gives me a sense that blood is in the water. Anybody a regular at a Michigan board?

You don't call a team meeting to announce the coach is not being fired.

Unless the team meeting part is a part of the rumor that is not real. Isn't a team meeting being official counted against NCAA player coach contact time?

Michigan will only owe him $2.5 million -- and he has THREE YEARS LEFT on his contract. Holy **** send that contract to Mike Bohn so he can learn how to write a decent buy-out clause!!!

That's one of the first things I thought as well. I guess the payout dropped pretty dramatically after yesterday. So UM probably would have liked to have fired RichRod two months ago, but decided to wait until now in order to cheapen the payout.

and let him hang himself with the bowl drubbing, as it turns out. sort of like Dan's final year....hard to make a case for yourself after Cal and Mizzou (again) and the KU debacle. made the admins work easy...which i think was far more an objective of DiStephano and Benson than is usually accepted. they got to make a empty but PR friendly "stand" in 09 for the institutions "integrity" for "doing things the right way"....and then Hawk hung himself in Strawberry Canyon. Case closed, easy greasy.

edit: it's classic administrator psychology or politics (you choose). be there when everyone is feeling good, stay on the fence when there is controversy and program as much non-accountability into big decisions as possible.

Looks like Harbaugh not going to another college team (only leaving Stanford for a NFL team) may be putting some kinks in the plan. Maybe they go with Hoke if they want to make a change. We will see in the next couple of days.

Michigan is bungling this situation in Bitsy-esque fashion. What on Earth do you need a second meeting today for?

Mich AD: "Rich, as you're aware, we have been performing our due diligence to make a decision regarding your position and, after much consideration, have decided to go in another direction."

Rich: "I know. I watched ESPN for 20 hours yesterday, they were talking all about it."

They won't get Harbaugh or Les Miles, their best hope is... Brady Hoke? Michigan faithful facing numerous sleepless nights.
