Phil Knight´s influence on the University of Oregon

Money can buy certain things. This guy single-handedly took a historically pathetic program to prominence.

Wow, their locker room is unbelievable. I wonder if the visitor's locker room is still a dump :)

What T Boone has done for Okie Light is even more impressive, in terms of facilities.

The great thing about the Pac10 historically is that there was parity. When Carrol got to USC that all changed, but something like 8/10 programs have won the championship over the past 20 years. Oregon is changing that as well as even places like UDub can't compete with the arms race. The only benefit that other teams have is location and proximity to players. There are a lot of players that wish to play in front of their parents, especially mom, and that's why I think it'll be difficult to become a non-stop factor. Yet given that they are in the North, the only Cali school that can compete with them year in and year out is Cal. Oregon will become the de facto North champion if the other players don't step up.

OSU and Oregon are prime examples of what money can buy. Interesting that if Boosters would be able to pour their money directly into facilities instead of player's pockets they could still get the desired end result without getting the school in trouble.

This is true to an extent, but there are players that would still choose OU over OSU or UT over OSU just based on tradition and history and fan passion. It's usually guys like that that are paid off, not 3* OL (which are needed, just not skill players or elite prospects). Oregon and OSU have good talent, but when compared to the depths of the super-powers they don't have the depth. It certainly doesn't hurt to have those facilities though, because I think you take away talent from places like CU or the like. Good teams historically and with a good fanbase, but without the facilities or proximity.

Neither the article nor the pictures of the facilities touched on the most important amenity for a college stud athlete, the girls. USC seems to have a corner on that market.

If that was the case then ASU or Ole Miss would be super powers and no team from the Big 10 would ever amount to ****.

Thats nothing. You should see their weight room. its about half the size of their indoor practice complex. its HUGE. all thx to Phil knight

Oregon gets all the "GOOD" Nike gear. When UO played in the hot ass humid air a few years ago at Mississippi State, Phil Knight gave the Ducks those new cold-vests to wear for the game when they just came out with them. The MSU coach asked Knight why his players didn't get the same gear since they were sponsored by Nike as well and Knight told him "be thankful we sponsor you." Knight only gives a shhit about UO and no one else. If UO didnt have him they would NEVER get any good players. Anyone who says he gave Oregon State any money is retarded including Knight cause he never did. OSU gets their money from private boosters. no one else. PS UOs new BBall court is dog****.

This guy would like to have a word with you.

You can't help but wonder what CU could be with a big booster and top notch facilities. I wish we had a Phil Knight or uncle T-Boone. We have a better football tradition, better location, nicer campus and hotter girls.

Ivan Drago had those kind of facilities, yet was beaten like a rented mule by Rocky, who trained in an old barn and by running through the snow and up mountains. Dal Ward is kind of like an old barn, and the flat irons are right there. By the end of the first Colorado game in Autzen stadium, or whatever it is called, the Oregon fans will be cheering for the Buffaloes! And the Nike board of directors will stand and applaud respectfully, like the Politburo did.

At what point does the facilities race look like the provision of an improper benefit?

BTW - I thought Mork and Mindy was based out of Boulder.

Sometimes I think you're just ****ing with me.

But I'll bite.

Because he's a good player that went to Oregon before the Phil Knight era.

I am fukin with you. I do it to everybody. what fun is a blog without other people at each others throats while still making a point.

I know Fouts went Oregon, he's in Knights back pocket. why wouldn't say anything.

A few years ago the college sportscasters did a survey asking where the hottest girls were on college campuses. The number one school was BYU!! While the girls are indeed hot at Ole Miss and "Ken and Barbie U" my comment was based upon the consistently superior girls that are cheering for USC on the sidelines.

And I object to the constant denigration of the Big Ten in all categories. I can personally attest that there are plenty of hot girls at Ohio State, Indiana and Wisconsin. Northwestern and Purdue not so much. But for godsake how hot are the girls at Kansas State?

The fact that there is an image of Knight etched in the mirrors of the women's bathroom is down right creepy.

Title IX

The etchings of Knight on the urinal dividers in the mens room are equally creepy.
