Apparently he doesn't like the hire of Embo. Can't disagree with the lack of coordinator experience, or McGhee's lack of overall coaching experience, but I think he's underestimating their heart and desire to return the Buffs to our former glory, as well as nfl/bcs experience of the other coaches.

Colorado (Jon Embree, Redskins tight end coach): D
Cash-strapped CU, rejected by the likes of Mike Bellotti, decided to reconnect with its past by bringing in former star and assistant Embree, overlooking the fact he's never been even a college offensive coordinator. Nor has his new offensive coordinator, former Buffs star Eric Bienemy. Another CU great, new defensive line coach Kanavis McGhee, most recently coached at Gannon (Pa.) University. Good luck with that.

But he gives Florida a B- and Indiana An A. He has some weird logic that's for sure.

He's one of the many idiots that proclaimed squawkins was an "A+" hire. How'd that work out?

I have to admit that when I first heard the news that Embree was the coach, I was very skeptical. I felt like we should be able to do better. I've been turned around, though, by listening to the guy and seeing the staff he's put together. I guess Mandel is typical of most ESPN writers who don't bother to do a lot of research before putting pen to paper.

Will only be that much sweeter when we start winning 8-9 games regularly again and EB is the next hottest college HC prospect in 3-4 yrs. Most of these people have probably never even been to Boulder and they don't know that its a special place with its own challenges in building a program. What works at one place doesn't always work at another.

These people who claim to be analysts are really morons some times.

I said it in another thread, but it bears repeating, Stewey can eat turds.

Unless he is right. In which case we will go the rinse repeat route one more time....

Yeah well Rick Neuheisel could talk it up too.

Proofs in the pudding my friend. I will reserve judgement after I see the on field product.

He's had a fair amount of time to cobble together at least a decent recruiting class this year. So lets start with that.

He's a NW Alum and probably doesn't follow anybody outside the SEC or Big Ten minus a few high profile programs- He's just still bitter that Gary Barnett left Northwestern for CU. Northwestern can suck it along with Mandel. SI is obsolete.

In my opinion, Mandel is one of the better writers out there. He's usually pretty fair and balanced about issues and at least thinks things all the way through before taking a position.

While I disagree with his ultimate conclusion on the Embree hire, can you really fault the guy for being pretty skeptical of a coach and OC with no coordinator or HC experience and the DC with only one year of co-coordinator experience? I do fault him for using McGhee's lack of experience as an example of the problem without going into the experience of the other coaches on the staff that is impressive (or acknowledging that McGhee is co-DL coach along with Tui who is very well regarded). We are excited because we know more about Embree's experience, we know more about his recruiting abilities, and we are fans and are therefore predisposed to come around to the hire.

Mandel is also one of the few writers that will acknowledge when he's dead wrong. Hopefully we can see him acknowledge his error on this one in a couple years.

True. But Embo is now Buff Nation's fearless leader. I'm pulling for him to be wildly successful, just like I did the coach who shall not be named (at least until it was obvious he was a coaching pygmy). Embo deserves to be defended by the fans against turd eaters like Stewey.

Dear Mr. Mandel, with all due respect, eat a bag of dicks.

Respectfully,

sackman.

I think a D is a little harsh. The coordinators are the big question mark in my mind, I actually think Embree is more than enough of a leader to be a solid HC.

To many outside of the Buff Nation, this does look like a second tier move. SM will either be proven wrong or we will be going thru the wringer again. I have been sold on what Embo is doing but we will not know the extent of success or failure for a couple three years or so. I for one will continue to be on board and will enjoy the day (hopefully) when we can write SM and tell him how wrong he was.

He gave CU an A+ for Hawkins. He is giving us a D or embrrito. How is this NOT good news?

The D is definitely a bit harsh in my mind, but truthfully the proper grade on every one of these hires is "INC"...

Everyone under god's blue sky is pulling for him. But if he can't cut it. Then he can't cut it. And there is exactly ZERO evidence out there that an unproven TE coach promoted to HC is ready for the job. Zero.

Believe me when I tell you **I hope**, **I pray**, that he can cut it. But is this guy really the best we could get? Ouch.

I will say this; I ain't drinking none of that damn Koolaid!

While mandel is a richard head, do people expect others to think CU is going to just roll with a HC and coordinators who have no experience? Really?

Sure, we as buff fans think they will and I was very skeptical of this hire but since embree has arrived, I've become more excited about the hire although very cautious. As miami said, if he cuts it then all these naysayers will eat it.

What is this richard head BS? You used this on the NU dick head as well.....

We also hired a HC before that built Boise, how'd the work out?

:yeahthat: I would agree. Embree is a known name in the Buff Nation, but doesn't stir any reaction for the casual fan. When I have been asked about the new coach, I give them the name, and then there is a pause. They don't know if Embree is good or bad, but they certainly don't know who he is. In a world of instant gratification, a no-name is an instant negative.

We know better. Let the rest of the planet be surprised.

Well said. Hopefully like Coach Mac, Embree will rock the college football world.

National media would have been more impressed with Tom Cable or Shawn Watson.

This guy's opinion is so worthless that a bad grade may be a good sign.

The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't help the program's perception. But, really, only winning will change that. And if Embree wins, you can bet this douchenozzle will be the first guy on his bandwagon.
