Whats going on?

This is the least I've paid attention to recruiting in years. Whats going on? I assume a so so class which is understandable with the transition.

So so class. Chance of some big fish late. Klatt says we have silent verbals he can't talk about. Nik says that might be right, or it might not. And Syko is pissed that we haven't signed 39 DTs in this class.

So basically, the usual...

In syko's defense, he is mostly complaining because we are all the way up to ZERO commits on the DL.

All you need to know about this class is CU currently ranked last in both the Big12 and PAC10 according to scout.

Need some serious luck with some late commits if this class is going to come close to top 60 in the nation. Best guess the class will be ranked somewhere around 75 when all done.

So glad we waited an entire year before kicking D2D to the curb.

I read one, but the reason I asked is because I don't have the time to browse through threads. Was hoping someone could give me an answer.

Not much is happening. Pretty much what one would expect. We are in on guys that didn't have much interest from other schools. Some higher ranked guys are showing interest, but it remains to be seen whether we sign anyone that is an elite recruit.

The best way to summarize recruiting, it pretty much mirrors the 2010 football season:

Started OK with some decent early commits (wins)
Had some bad public losses (really stopped recruiting)
Got rid of the head coach
Really turned it on at the end and put ourselves in position to salvage something in the class (season)

We will see if the recruiting cycle ends with a bigger bang than the season ended.

It really didn't start ok, though.

There were no more than five 4* prospects with any CU interest at any time. That's pathetic for CU.

Unbelievably deep hole we were in.

Not only that, but we had a small number of verbals for quite a while. We had only used 11 official visits through the end of October. It is one thing to lose out on guys, it is another to be a complete non-entity in the recruiting game.

Did Bohn have a say in terms of the number of OV's Hawk could use? Do you think Hawk was told not to use more than XX at some point?

The most intriguing story this season, IMO, is a non-story.

QB standout Brock Berglund from Valor Christian via Highlands Ranch was being recruited by the previous regime, but ended up committing to KU. Brock's locker room behavior may or maynot get Charlie Sheen's seal of approval.

So now we are bringing in a juco QB who won 60 games in high school and a texas kid who is part of the Detmer dynasty.

This could be a forum title, or at least it could pass for a thread title. IOW, pretty much sums up the past 10+ years

Stop being dumb, It isn't too much to ask for 2 dt's . But yeah, I wanted 39....

Relax. If you want to be over the top about it, expect a few jokes at your expense...

Over the top? This is tame compared to the horrible job every coach has done at cu after mac at getting dt's. No position has been neglected more and blown off by fans than dt. The list is long, but each day it seems like anothe dt or de who was going to visit isn't. Many left to choose from, and since 2 stars are the rage with this staff, there are a ton of them.

Circumstances whatever, no excuses. They left with the last staff.

I will lighten up...someday.

I'm not sure what you expect syko. It's not like the NFL draft where if you need a defensive tackle, you just wait your turn and pick the best one available. I can't and won't defend the previous regime, but Embree and company seem to be making an effort. You can't make them visit and the even if they do, you can't make them commit.
I guess they could bring in a bunch of guys who have no business playing in the Pac-12 and bitch about it down the road when they can't get on the field as upperclassmen. Or the staff can get the best set of athletes they can given the hole they started in and start fresh for next year. If there are no d-line prospects in the pipeline a year from now, you would have every right to complain. But given where they were a month ago, if the players aren't there, they're not there.
(I know I posted this in two places, but it needs to be said -- maybe repeatedly)

Yep, the staff loves 2 star recruits. And you are the only one on Earth who understands the importance of DTs. And reiterating that here in every thread, every day, is going to change these things. Although it hasn't for the last umpteen years you've been trying.

BTW, I agree with you about wanting to get some DTs signed. But they've also got to have talent at a lot of other positions. And this staff is way behind the 8 ball trying to get this class together. But I think you already know all those things, deep down...

Taking DL just to take them does very little good. You miss on several DL recruits and all you have is a bunch of guys taking up roster spots. At least with other athletes, you can possibly use them on special teams.

It seems pretty clear to me the staff is holding off on addressing both lines until the 2012 class. Considering they are perhaps the hardest positions to project to the next level, this is not necessarily a bad idea considering the time constraints. I also think the hiring of Tui is a pretty clear sign that Embree understands the importance of getting DT prospects.

I'm with syko on this one. I'd like to think that there's some emphasis on finding d-linemen at this point. Perhaps this staff has targeted some who've said no, or chose to look elsewhere, or -- whatever. I just don't know. But it's a glaring need right now. The pipeline is dry.

Maybe it's time for a "reach". A player from a smaller school, or one that's not as highly rated. There have to be some dt's/de's out there. I'd really like to see them close out this recruiting cycle with one of each.

People, there are plenty of quality DT and DE's left. If we can take rb's,db's and athletes who may not see the field, we can surely take dt's. Again, there are "quality DL, many undecided. I would think embree, tui and mcghee could get at least 1.

Now, if this is somehow impossible, then for the 2012 class, they will HAVE to sign 3-4 dt's. We have 3 sr's at the DT position. Problem is, you're going to have true freshman backing up bonsu and pericak in 2012. Not a good scenario.

It's hard for me to believe they can get 3-4 dt's next year when there is such a problem signing 1. USC, Oregon and cal along with washington will be tough recruiting against. My hope is that mcghee gets his feet planted in texas. If sorry butt university of houston can sign 4 dt's, no reason why cu can't.

Hold on folks, my bitching will soon end on DT'S...If they don't sign any my head will blow off and if they do sign any, I'll let that do til 2012 recruiting.

Again, you make it sound like a grocery store. There are many left and we just have to go out and pick up one or two. Of course, they may have already narrowed their selection down to 2 or 3 schools and none of those schools are CU, but that doesn't matter, right?

DT is a need. I have not seen anybody disagree with you on that. Accusing Buff fans of blowing off the position is beyond stupid. What, exactly, would you have us do? Punch our computer screens?

Punch you neighbor instead... You're right, cu is the only school that can't sign a DT. Makes sense.

I would really like to know that the staff is making a push to pull in at least one dt. However, we prolly won't get any real info on their efforts until on or after LOI day. I do think that they will probably need to target a JC next year -- just to fill the gap in classes.

That said, and we are in agreement on the need for interior line presence syko, the UH correlation may not be a good one. Yes, they have several dt's -- but could they get into CU? Not sure. What is certain, their defensive coaches have been working these kids for at least a season, if not more. I really wish we have made the coaching move before last season. At least our new staff would have had time to establish the relationships, and in the end, be in the running (if not already having commitments from) for some of these "big uglies".

You want good DTs or will any DT do? I'm sure we could find a couple of bad ones. Doesn't really solve the problem though.

Very true, but how do you know any recruits are good or not? Will clark ,henderson or harrington be jimmy smith or jalil brown? I'm not saying just sign anyone, i'm saying there are plenty out there that have just as good an offer sheet as the 3 recruits we just signed.
