Former Colorado and Boulder High School linebacker Jeff Smart has joined coach Jon Embree's staff as a defensive graduate assistant coach.

Smart completed his career in 2009 and had been living and working in Southern California before deciding to return to Boulder last month and pursue a career in coaching when he learned of the opportunity.

Congrats, Jeff!

This is a good move. Guy got the absolute most out of his athletic ability to be CU's leading tackler as a senior. Easy guy to cheer for.

Good choice, nobody can question his work ethic, turned himself into a player through hard work and football smarts.

Allsome! Smart always seemed like just the sort of player that would make a successful transition into coaching. Glad it starts at CU in this role!

Very pleased by this move. Smart was the type of player who low rated recruits with huge desire and commitment will gravitate to.

That would be uncomfortable.
