Bubble Watch - Saturday 3/12

Any particular reporter/media analyst is going to have his particular opinions and take on things. CBS not only has the natural eastern bias that pervades much of the national media but also is attached lips to a** with the SEC so they tend to believe that the world starts and ends in the eastern half of the country focused on the southern states. With this in mind it is no surprise that you would see SEC schools like Tennessee hyped as well as schools like VCU and George Mason that happen to exist in that part of the country and play a lot of OCC games against SEC schools.

Is it possible that CU will be left out? Yes, they are not ranked, have a low RPI, have a couple of ugly losses, and aren't a historical basketball power. In addition to underestimate the ability of the NCAA to do stupid things would be a hard task. On the other hand the majority of the media guys looking at the situation including some who have pretty good records of being right in the past have us solidly in. These guys are making this call from the same national media viewpoint as CBS is so I think that it would be logical to put us in.

.

throw Clemson in that list.

Here's a good summary of the current situation that I got off of Stewart Mandel's twitter. CU is the only bubble team that is IN by 5/6 of the media outlets in this post. Take that for what it's worth.

The consensus seems to be that the bubble consists of St. Mary's, USC, Alabama, Georgia, VCU, Harvard, and us. I don't see how we get left out in that equation.

ESPN just did a long evaluation of us. One guy was saying that nobody ever gets in with Non conference strength of schedule over 300. All the other guys were saying that our big 12 body of work was just too impressive to keep us out and that you cant punish tad for non conference because he didnt have control over our schedule. Also stated that even though our strength of schedule was weak we still went on the road way more than most teams in the non conference. It got pretty heated both sides were very passionate about their position. Kinda scared me I hope Gottleib and Williams were right

Gottlieb and Jay Williams have these analyst jobs because they can't play anymore (not that gottlieb ever played pro). The coaches who thought CU shouldn't be in have these jobs because they got fired as coaches. I trust the former player analysts more than the idiot fired coaches.

The coach that was most passionately against us was the former coach at Bama, which just happens to be another bubble team...

I don't get this whole idea of "you've got to beat somebody out of conference". If you beat good teams in conference, does that somehow count less than beating good teams OOC? CU played a bad OOC schedule, but they beat a bunch of good Big XII teams. Does that somehow make them less deserving than a team that played a bunch of average teams OOC, but never really beat anybody good?

The SOS OOC over 300 thing is true. But CU also has a very strong top 50 resume. The other teams that played these garbage OOC schedules also did not have alot to fall back on in past years(VA Tech). CU does.

Screw those has been coaches. The Gottlieb pointed out that Boyle kind of was stuck with the schedule he was dealt and that Colorado did not get invites to early season tournaments. The "has been" coach ripped Tad for not improving his schedule after he was hired. Give Gottlieb credit, he stuck up for us. I hope we get in and shock the world.

A lot of people tweeting about possible heartbreaks(Dickie v, Bilas, etc..) CU has not been mentioned. Taking a little bit of the nerves off

I think we are in. A lot of the analyst are eastern based know nothings who don't bother to look at the total work anywhere as closely as the committee does. Instead they live on reputations and media bits from sportscenter. I'm not that worried although until it is announced nothing is guaranteed for anyone other than the autobids.

In the worst of cases we end up in the NIT, the place that many here were hoping for at the begging of the season. If we end up there Tad uses the snub to motivate the guys to show the committee the error of their ways and we end up with a positive tourney experience which will help in the future. For a team that lost 20 a couple of years ago however we end will be a major improvement.

The NIT is a four-letter word on these boards today. watch your mouth. you've been warned.

Well after he gets his 250k bonus in the next hour, he can head on over to Best Buy and get a nice new flat screen for the Boyle house.
