Not talked about much, but this was a fun game!

LOL...Howard Schellenger comes to mind. I wonder if that game broke OU's program for the rest of the 1990's like 62-36 broke NU's program.

Here's the write-up from that game ... http://www.cuatthegame.com/1995/10-oklahoma-john-hesslers-record-setting-starting-debut/

Yes, Howard Schnellenberger would lead the Sooners further down the rabbit hole, but it was CU which put Oklahoma back in its place. The Buffs went into Norman with their quarterback (Detmer) out, and all John Hessler did was go out set a school record for touchdown passes ... :congrats: :gobuffs:

Yep, college gameday was in Norman that day and Howard came on the set and said he didn't want an asterisk when OU beat Colorado because Detmer was out.

I remember that game real well, was fun to watch. I was in Abilene at my brother's house, CU football was at a different level back then. I hope we get back there soon, I think we are due.

It was clearly an OU fan that cut together that clip (see the footage of a 9 yard out pattern to a TE). My question is why? Why would you cut together footage of your team getting their asses handed to them?

It was obviously an ode of thanx to the Buffs. It got the boomers out of the Smellyburger years, and on to the glorious John Blake era.

This was the game where Boomer Schooner crashed, right? Didn't one of the guys in it break his arm? Talk about a harbinger.

i think Schnellenberger was only at OU one year, no?

True. Oklahoma came into the CU game 3-0 and ranked No. 10 in the AP poll (No. 9 in CNN/USA Today coaches' poll).

After losing to the Buffs, the Sooners went 2-4-1 the rest of the way. Oklahoma lost its last three games of the season - 10-49 to Kansas State; 0-12 to Oklahoma State; and 0-37 to Nebraska - and it was bye-bye Howie. :wave2:

was this not the game where CU had two 99 yard drives? i know they did that one year @ OU. i seem to think it was either this game or in 1991. just not sure.

the other thing is Lendon Henrey (sp?)... the RB. that is one guy who i always thought would blow up at CU and i just cant remember what ever happened to him.....

The two 99-yard drive game was the 1991 CU/Oklahoma game http://www.cuatthegame.com/1991/no-12-oklahoma-two-99-yard-drives-take-down-sooners/

Lendon Henry was a three-year letterman (1994-96). At the time, Henry's 1,115 yards were 35th on the all-time list. Only had 25 carries in Salaam's 2,055-yard season in 1994, was second behind Herchell Troutman in 1995 with 463 yards, and again behind Troutman in 1996 with 539 yards. Perhaps underutilized, but Henry played with alongside some pretty good backs.
