SBNation's CU Preview

seems like he thinks about what I do. Lower-mid major bowl very possible with the talent on the team. The opportunity to start 4-1 is very real. And no one knows a whole lot about how the offense or defense will look.

had to have been thinking of the Hey Song, but still doesnt make any sense

I still don't know the words to that. How does it go? The clean version, that is? Is it:

Hey Buffaloes
Hey Buffaloes
Buff 'em up
Buff 'em up
Go CU?

about what i think too. low level type bowl is a legit goal for this year. i think he's being wink wink-nudge nudge on the "Buff 'em up" thing.

somebody gonna set him straight on the cheer?. Also, great article by that guy. Love his stats.

Scotty McKnight departs after a distinguished, 16-year career as Colorado receiver.

That made me laugh. Overall good writeup.

I'm still convinced we can get Bobby Purify back for his 23rd year of eligibility.

I'm still new to "advanced" stats for football, but I love how this article simplifies it for idiots like me. Guess I need to diversify and start reading Football Outsiders as well as my daily trip to Basketball Prospectus.

I don't think the advanced stats for football mean as much as the basketball ones.

For the most part, football will always come down to who makes the most explosive plays and wins the turnover battle. Beyond that, look at the offensive and defensive efficiency ratings for pass and run along with red zone efficiency (offense and defense). Are you capitalizing on your opportunities, keeping other teams from capitalizing, extending drives, and getting teams off the field. A lot of the advanced stats for football are more important for game planning because they talk to style and tendencies rather than having a strong correlation to wins and losses.

I'm a big believer in the 3rd down efficiency for both offense and defense statistic. I think it goes a long way towards field position. In some games, where there's a big mismatch, the statistic doesn't mean as much because one team may only have 6 or 7 third downs in an entire game.

One statistic that gets too much attention at the college level is Time of Possession. Overrated statistic most of the time because the great offenses at the college level usually score quickly with explosive plays.

Blocking + Tackling = Football. Conceptually simple but difficult in execution.

WTF?

Three receivers were the focus of almost 70% of Colorado's passes in 2010, and two return. Scotty McKnight departs after a distinguished, 16-year career as Colorado receiver.

16 Years? He must have hit the crack pipe when he typed that sentence. Otherwise a pretty decent read.

It was, how do you say, a joke?

I understood it was a joke, I just didn't get the point. Reading the article (this guy is pretty good), it seemed like he follows the Buffs pretty closley, so the idea is "it seems like Scotty was here forever"?

I think the "stats" comments go to Plati, and the writer maybe didn't realize Greg Brown's dad was a CU coach. So, he 'bleeds Black and Gold' as much as JE, EB or anyone. When was Irv Brown the baseball coach, late 60's?

The AD is planning Hawaii travel, have they annouced anything yet?

In your opinion was Scotty here more or less than 16 years?

Hey, Go Buffs
Hey, Go Buffs
Hey, Go Buffs
Buffaloes /Rough em up
Buffaloes /Rough em up
Go CU

Am I the only one that can't F'ing stand the recent (maybe the last half decade) "Go Buffs" addition to this chant? It sounds so bad . . . .
