Stanford Cardinal

My experiences with their fans have so far been few, and extremely unpleasant. They seem to be like huskers with an attitude. Creatini will back me up from the ESPN blog. I am praying we make Luck like a high schooler when we play then in Palo Alto, and TH puts up somewhere around 500 yards.... **** the Cardinal, and their stupid tree

That's your problem right there. People that frequent those blogs aren't very bright--or at least don't post anything of value.

I think the blogs are different than what you would experience going to a game there. I went to a Stanford game last year when they played Oregon State. I found the fans for the most part to be a non factor. They were relatively quiet and were more concerned about which merlot to drink before the game. I went into the stadium behind a bunch of Oregon State fans and didn't hear them heckle any of them. They seem to have more of a quiet confidence about them -- i.e. they know they went to Stanford so they don't really need to say anything unlike say a Texas fan who's all to happy to let you know how great UT is.

Wow, that sucks. Are both of them like that?

A long time ago, right after college, I worked with a Stanford Grad. She had an awesome rack and tasted like chicken.

I like the Stanford crew, i think your issue is the espn blog part. Having read them a couple times 9 out of 10 of those posters couldn't get into Cal let alone Stanford.

i don't have an issue with Stanford. i did have a grad school prof who went there and, this is a man in his 50's, managed to work in having gone to Stanford into every conversation we ever had. and i worked for him as an RA for a year and we met once a week for an hour and a half. and he is a dick. he likes to pretend like he's a big fan (when SU is good, needless to say)....like the good Montgomery hoops teams. also, that he and Tiger Woods were best buddies because they met at some Stanford thing. so, if SU loses and he suffers in his quagmire of self-promotion and bandwagon BS....OK.

Well, I'd have to agree. I went to the CU Stanford game in '93(?). Also went to a random Stanford game. Many of the Stanford people were dicks. Much higher percentage than others.

Stanford doesn't remotely worry me. Given their academic standards they are going to be on par with Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Duke etc. They will have some football success as recent history shows, but ultimately Colorado will dominate the series.

Sad, lots of deluded kids in the buffs nation. Dan Hawkins is a good man. Throwing him under the bus shows the weak character of CU fans. As Jim Harbaugh says, "The games are decided by the players on the field. We coaches just enjoy being a part of it." Those games were lost by your players. You should be spitting all your hate a Jalil Brown, Nate Solder, Jimmy Smith and all the players who lost every away game since 2007. By the way, how is the girl that your starting linebacker Michael Sipili raped doing? Did his trial start yet? Is your starting QB Bernard Jackson still locked up for armed robbery of CU kids? NO WONDER YOU'RE AFRAID TO BLAME THE PLAYERS!!!

Seriously why are you posting this garbage from a comments page on ESPN.

Don't feed the Troll.
Learn it. Live it. Love it.

He is the stanford fan I have been arguing with... Just giving the basis to this thread. However talking with duck fans on another page, they seem to be level headed and easy to have discussions with. Only thing is one of them thought that their practice facility could recreate atmospheric conditions, such as altitude. If thats the case... we have some a lot more catching up to do in terms of facilities then I thought.

Stanford is a funny place, my experience has been that aside from Big Game week (and to a lesser extent USC week) they seem somewhat apathetic about football. Stanford fans seem to pride themselves on their University 1st and their football program 2nd unlike a majority of other fanbases whose self worth often seem tied to the W/L of the football team.

I think they could potentially be a power in this conference - unlike Vandy and Duke their AD is flush with cash - they rebuilt their football stadium a few years ago even though they never filled it. They have top notch academics, a beautiful campus, and if I'm not mistaken they field more D1 sports teams than any other school in the country.

They are in a great position - they have a laundry list of brilliant, rich alumni and because of the school's proximity to Silicon Valley and the center of the VC universe, many of these rich alumni still live in Stanford's backyard.

They could potentially be a power in the Pac 12 if that was as important a goal as it is at other schools. Stanford is a lot like CU only with superior academics, deeper pockets, and is located right in the middle of its alumni/donor base. I don't think they're going to be anyone's whipping boy anymore.

Meh - I like Stanford as a school. Their athletics are outstanding as well. They've won something like 20 Sears Cups in a row. Their fans pompous, arrogant douchebags - all 15 of them.

Stanford Alum is worse than Husker fans because they have an education that is worth a dam.

This mirrors my view. Who wouldn't want their son to get a Stanford degree. (This coming from someone who turned one down to attend dear old CU).

Hang on, stanfurd has fans? This must be a new development. They can't even fill up a brand new stadium when they are winning.

I tend to see Stanford as the Texas A&M of the Pac-12. Like Aggie, they have one of the top petroleum engineering programs in the country. This gives them access to a wealthy alumni base and big endowments that they use to plow into lots of sports.

Stanford fans are weird. Not in the bonfire and nut grabbing sense. (Come to think of it, the Tree could be used in a bonfire) Stanford is cocky-confident in the value of their diploma and the built-in cult that comes with it. Never mind that the LA has star power and their bay rival Cal has better views. Stanford is way behind U$C in football tradition, kind of like A&M is shadowed by UT, except for ties to the Bush/Energy axis. Similarly, Stanford has silicon valley, a big endowment, and therefore sits at the center of the universe no matter what happens on football Saturday.

Stanford Department of Petroleum Engineering..."best in the world."

You didn't think Stanford was above mineral engineering, did you?

Stanford seems to emphasize having a strong overall athletic program as opposed to placing a greater emphasis on football and they still won the Orange Bowl last year. Imagine if they cut 15 sports and funneled all that extra money to football - CU should be glad they have such a robust athletic department, if they focused all their energy and resources on football we'd have a hard time being competetive with them.
