Former Buff Mark Cooney passed away this week after a valiant battle against colon cancer. Mark was a wonderful person who loved his family and his Lord. There will be a memorial for Mark this Tuesday at 6:00 PM at Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada.

Mark was MVP in either the '71 Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl or the '72 Gator Bowl. I can't remember which. Either MVP or defensive player of th game.

This hits a little close to home. I cannot say I was a close friend of Mark's but I was acquainted with him. I ran into him all the time and use to see him at the gym from time to time. I realized the last time I talked to him was over a year ago - we were on the elliptical machines and were chatting about our opinions of the CU football program. Mark was always a gentleman. He was way too young to go.

Thanks for the update DBT.

Just got back from Mark's memorial service. It was inspiring. I did not realize Mark is fifth on CU's all-time tackles and sacks list. In '73 Mark, who wore #73 intercepted a pass against Mizzou and returned it 73 yards for the winning TD. Anyway, the service was inspiring. Mark was a great husband, father and Christian.

BTW, Mac was there with his wife, daughter and two grandsons. He looked great and his grandsons are great looking young men. Good to see The Coach.

Bless his soul. The fact that Mac was there for a player he missed by a decade or so speaks a lot of Mark. Hard to know what else to say.

They were pretty close. Mac sat on the front row. There were over 1000 in attendance. I'll have ten unless my wife shows up. Tonight had a tremendous impact on everyone there. It was more inspiring than sad. Just the way one would hope his/her own service will be.

Mark's son, who was a walk-on with Hawkins, was awesome speaking about his dad. Mark's sister and daughter were just awesome. Services like this one can be life changing. I hope I'm a better person for it.

I apologize for boring everyone, but this is what life is all about. It's just something I wanted to share.
