Huge OT. Really like this prospect. Has a 7'1" wingspan to go with that height.

Hopefully we can make an impression. We're playing catchup.

Interesting that there are no offers from the local boys, but I like the Wisconsin offer a lot.

As I posted on the Rivals board, I'm a bit surprised that we are going into Washington for OLs but haven't offered Josh Garnett and Zach Banner. Maybe we figured that we're too late with those guys or something. Williams would be a very good get, though.

Should Boyle have been in contact with Embree about Banner? Wouldn't being one of the few school to offer and show interest in him in both sports be a huge advantage in recruting? He's one of the top o-line prospects in the country, it's not like Embree would be doing Boyle a favor by recruting him, they could work together.

That would be rare for the coaches to coordinate like that. All I could see would be if Banner told Boyle that he is going to play football that Boyle might pass that info along to the football group. There might also be cases where a staff member for one team is known to have a great relationship with a certain high school and a coach from the other sport asks for an intro with administrators or something. But there's very little, if any, recruiting interaction between basketball and football programs.

I remember DesertDawg have good things to say about Garnett last fall when Banner was getting more of the pub.

I'm fine with the offensive line offers we out. Time for the coaches to land some players.

All three players (Garnett, Banner and Williams) are friends and work out together at times at Competitive Edge in the Tacoma area. New videos of workouts for all have been posted on the Washington Scout site.

Garnett is easily the most polished right now, but his dad Scott has helped with that, being a former NFL player. His dad (Scott) is letting Josh go through all of the recruiting motions which is a great thing for parents to do for such an elite prospect. He's also a workout machine. That said, he probably would have been the #1 OL prospect in the nation the majority of years the past decade. He is that good as a high school athlete. The problem is this is probably the deepest (quality and quantity) OL class (especially on the West Coast) since any of the recruiting sites have been up this past decade.

My personal wish list (for the Huskies) would be: 1a. Garnett, 1b. Banner and 3. Williams. Shane Brostek (Hawai'i) I would put right behind Garnett and Banner in my wish list... that's not to discredit Williams in any way as I really, really want him as well. He's just further behind from an experience standpoint IMO although his upside is huge.

Banner is also a stud recruit, and long-term the question is whether he will get too big for football. He's already 6'9" I believe. He loves basketball as well and wants to play both in college. We'll have to see if that happens or if when he enters school his track changes. His biological father is Lincoln Kennedy (there was a good Scout story about that last year). The bloodlines are there and Banner is a great physical specimen. A really, really good kid who is grounded, smart and thoughtful as well.

All of these kids are great people as well as great PSAs.

Williams is the least known of the three, and it is because he plays for such a small school with no significant competition. I've heard some say he might have the most potential of the three, but he is still very, very raw and unpolished. UW is waiting to get him into camp prior to offering right now I think.

In addition to the big 3, there are many other solid OL recruits in Washington. In fact, to my knowledge the state of Washington has never had a class as good as this with regard to quality and quantity. I think both Garnett and Banner will end up 5* when all is said and done, and I would be surprised if Washington doesn't have numerous 4* and 3* OL as well in the final recruiting rankings. If there was ever a year to venture into Washington for OL recruits this is it. Definitely a year to load up.

University of Washington finally came through - Washington is blessed with a serious selection of OL players in this recruiting class -

Washington State and Colorado are producing some great looking OL. Between CO/WA/CA, I think we're going to get a very solid four/five guys from these three states alone and we have a very real chance at some players in HI too.

In regards to Williams, he's raw but you can see the potential there. He's extremely unpolished pass blocking. He quicksets a lot because there are a lot of rollout passes and i'm not sure he's got the technique to sit on the outside. Maybe eventually, probably at RT. That being said, he shows great strength and nastiness in the run game. Love his driveblocking ability. He's a tall one but i'd move him in at RG/LG like we have done with Ryan Miller and let him determine where he wants to play based on his progress pass blocking. You can coach technique but you can't coach his natural size, athleticism and arm length. He would be a nice prospect to get and build up.

I was thinking Ryan Miller, too. I always feel weird about comparisons, though. As long as people understand that we're talking about a similar build and style of play, it's cool. But there always seems to be some idot who takes it like we're putting an expectation on a high school kid that he's going to have the same type of results. In Miller's case, that's a 4 year starter who has been all-conference the past 2 years, is making pre-season all-american teams, and is projected as a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick who will either stay at guard in the NFL or slide out to RT. I hope that Williams is all that, but I don't want to put that on him. I'm very high on him as a prospect, though.

I really like what I see in this kid. He seems like the type of player who has it all, and with that size, he could step in and contribute pretty quickly. Similar height to our recent 1st round pick, Nate Solder, no?

Tall but whole different body type than Nate. Nate, even at 320 looks like a tight end, wide shoulders narrow to the hips, not much belly. This kid is not quite as tall as Nate and much thicker although he also has those long arms.

Sometimes Nate was almost to tall with smaller speed guys getting underneath him, this kid has a lower center of gravity and with some coaching could be a very tough matchup at tackle. Pretty raw but looks like he has the talent to really excell in college, I hope he decides to go to CU.

Walker's potential is high, no doubt. He is probably a player who will need a couple of years before he would see the field at the collegiate level though. He is still very, very raw and is just starting to lift.

The other thing is he is playing in a very, very weak and small level conference against no competition. Right now he does not have to use technique, and he will have to get good coaching to develop that prior to being a force at the collegiate level. I agree though, the intangibles are all there...

This kid was in Boulder today. He is a stud. Looks like Solder in the sense that he is super lean. No belly, no fat. Kid is huge, all of 6'8"-6'9" a at least 315, (says he is 320). Would be a huge get for the Buffs.

5 bucks says he'll be at Pasta Jay's tonight!

That would have been a good bet - last stop on the way to the airport! DSC_8603_5075.jpg Worth a trip back for sure, not that this has to be the reason. CU is a GREAT place, very impressive. (And yes, this is a picture of the Chicken Parm he ordered...)

Glad you enjoyed your visit, tough not to like Boulder! Hopefully he decides to spend the next 4-5 years there!
