CJ and Klatt were discussing that Hansen and CU are going to try to get the NCAA to grant a waiver for him based on how he was screwed around his first 3 years (and then losing half of his junior year to injury).

Long shot that it would happen.

But send some karma in hopes that Tyler will be our QB in 2012 too.

If nothing else, the NCAA should be able to order Dan Hawkins to show up in Boulder and let Tyler kick him square in the nuts. Three years in a row.

Kinda screws Hirschman if they get it, but I think Tyler deserves a break. If it happens, I'd say the chances are pretty good that we go straight from Hansen to Dillon. Dillon would be coming out of his RS year in 2013.

Does the NCAA have a remedial rule for players screwed over by incompetent coaches bent on nepotism? If so, they are forward looking organization and I take back everything I have said about them being lily livered scum sucking hypocrites who favor the big name programs....

:yeahthat:I'm afraid this is correct. The NCAA isn't known for it's rational, well reasoned and sympathetic behavior.
Why should the NCAA help out each and every player screwed out of playing time by a coaching staff?

And if we're being honest, we'd have to agree with them in this case. Otherwise, every time there was a coaching change you'd have players petitioning for extra eligibility based on being jerked around by the prior coaching staff.

But, that doesn't mean they shouldn't order Dan to come get his nut punches.

Definitely worth a shot, though. Were there any injuries in '08 and '09 that can be claimed? Might be able to document an entire season's worth of games lost to injuries.

It's a reach, but it's worth taking our best shot.

No way this happens. Poor Tyler. He got screwed over, but he still played. His only chance would be his injury year, but he played way too much that year to get a medical shirt.

Strange and Ironic...I remember being called names on another site for only suggesting that nepotism was a factor in what was going on with the QBs. Now it appears the University is making it official. Anyone who thinks Dan Hawkins is a nice guy is delusional. Good luck to Tyler...odds are against him.

I heard CJ and Klatt differently, I never thought they said the University was activly persuing this action it was just speculation if CU could lobby a Hardship redshirt fot Tyler. But both CJ and Klatt said they would spearhead the movement.

Over on BZ? Sorry about that...

Right.

CU: We we would like our qb, who will have played parts of four seasons, to have another year of eligibility because the then-coach's son was a competing qb.

NCAA: Next!

I sincerely doubt the University of Colorado would try to play the nepotism card in this one. Klatt, maybe. Anybody with a serious interest beyond entertainment, no way. The injury is the only possible claim here.

This. Klatt also brought up Houston as precedent, although he didn't say that Houston was a victim of bad coaching.
