I re-watched both games....

I know Brown and Purify get the accolades.... but the reason we were so dominant in those 2 games were:

Hage
Lucier
Bates
Rodgers
Gurode

Drumm

If we want to be successful again.... we are going to need players who play like those 6. I dont give a crap about the 5* running back.... These guys opened holes bigger than Liver's vagina....

Brandon Drumm made the FB position cool. I definitely miss him blocking the way for our RBs. :(

And then Lawrence Vickers perfected it. I loved Brandon Drumm he always reminded me of the Juggernaut from X-men.

You left out a key part of that line, big big key part.

btw, even after losing Rogers Gurode and Graham, the line was almost as good the next year. Chris Brown would have had 2,000 yards had he not gotten hurt at the end.

Sorry, Brandon was a far better FB at CU than Vickers. For some reason, Vickers couldn't find his way out of GB's dog house to consistently play enough to prove he was on par with Brandon.

You misunderstand me. Brandon was absolutely a better FB, but I was responding to the point that Drumm made the position cool. Vickers was just a cool cat and to me made one of the coolest single plays in Colorado history when he took his would be CSU tackler at the goal line and ass-raped him in the 2005 game.

As cool as that play was, can you remember him doing anything else in his entire CU career?

No worries. Vickers could have been truly special at CU, if he was allowed to play. Luckily he was drafted largely on potential.

Vickers had a great game against Mizzou in 2005, scoring 4 TD's. He didn't go over 100, but one of his TD runs was over 20 yards, not bad for a FB.

You underestimate how good Brown and Purify were. Together with Cortlen Johnson, that trio was as good as any in the country when healthy. Each brought unique talents.

No I don't.... they are great running backs... not 5*'s either..... but the biggest reason we dominated those games in 2001... was the play of our line as a whole... as the season wore on, our running yards went up and up... and we mauled Nebraska and Texas up front...

I don't disagree, but Brown would have been a Heisman finalist and flown to NYC in 2002 had he not gotten hurt, he was on pace to break Salaams season record with only a couple games left. And the 2002 line was missing 2 first round draft picks and a 2nd round draft pick from the 01 line.

Drumm was allsome. Big bruiser dude from Alaska, plus the name. Just a guy who would steamroll you to open up lanes for the players who got all the glory. Vickers was pretty nice too. Aside from being consistent when he was out there, I just remember him bodyslamming a guy defending a kick return.
