Any thoughts of an SEC network?

I said this in another thread, but I'll say it here, too. I love me some SEC football. Don't get me wrong, I love the Pac 12 and I'm thrilled to be here. But they play a different brand of football in the SEC. I really enjoy watching those games just for the pure enjoyment of watching two teams play a great game of football. Of all the conferences aside from the Pac 12, I'm hoping the SEC goes with their own network someday.

I'll be too busy watching the Pac 12 network to bother with the SEC.

I thought the SEC network was called ESPN?

I guess they may have to tone it down a bit with their new $300 million partner.

Buncha haters. The SEC is a great football conference. Vandy, Kentucky and maybe Mississippi St are the only teams that would be considered perrennial doormats. I can sit down and watch Florida/Tennessee or South Carolina/Auburn or LSU/Alabama and totally enjoy the game without any consideration for who I actually want to win the game. It never matters to me. There's no denying the passion those fans and players have for the game. It's a spectacle.

I would swap Tennessee and Miss st for right now. Miss St. could win 10 games this year while Tenn hasn't been any good in I don't know how long.

Saying you'd swap Tennessee for Miss St is like saying you'd swap CU for Oregon State. Tennessee isn't going to be down forever, and any success MSU has will always be short lived.

You are right SEC fans such as Uncle Jethro are absolutely a spectacle.

I'm talking currently. BTW, Tennessee has always bored me even when they were good. I like Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

I watch a lot of SEC football, lots of speed and athleticism all over the field.

I can pretty much watch any conference except for the Big East and Notre Dame games.

To answer your original question, there was a lot of talk about an SEC network when the media rights for the conference were up last (I believe around 3 years ago) and ESPN/CBS paid them an unprecedented at the time $2.25 billion over 15 years to NOT start a network (obviously that deal has since been surpassed by the Pac-12's deal).

Supposedly they have the option to renegotiate if the conference membership changes (which is more fuel for the A&M/OU to SEC talk) but I'm not sure if that just means more $$ or also the ability to hold onto inventory (games) to put in an eventual network (currently ESPN and CBS have the rights to most of their games).

Big East sucks, until the MWC was broken up last year, I thought the MWC was more deserving of an auto BCS bid than the Big East.

I am also not much of a fan of the ACC, ya teams like FSU, Miami and V Tech are good, but overall that conference bores me. When I think ACC, I think basketball.

You guys have a point - there's pretty much always a SEC game on the tube somewhere.

Ya, just never saw anything exciting with them.

I saw Tennessee & South Carolina play a 5 OT game a few years ago. It was epic.

The thing about the SEC isn't that they have more talent than everybody else. They don't. It's that there are 12 teams in that conference and probably 8-9 of them are pretty much always good. The difference between #8 and #1 isn't that much. You're pretty much guaranteed a good game every week in the SEC. When I think of SEC football, I think of night games where there are 90,000+ people in the stands screaming their freaking heads off. It's a neat atmosphere. I'd like to get to an Alabama or Tennessee or Florida game at some point in my life. Not when they're playing CU, mind you. That would be problematic.

I love watching SEC football. Someday I'll go and watch some games in person.

Cheating aside, nothing like an SEC atmosphere. RV's start rolling in on Wednesday in Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Baton Rouge and the party goes non-stop until Sunday

SEC football is great. I love watching SEC games on the tube and I don't even have a rooting interest in any of the teams, I simply enjoy the games and the tremendous atmosphere.

Just like a NASCAR race.

It will be like MTV. It will start out all football this and rival that, but once it reaches maturity, it's be a bunch of reality tv shows about ****ing your sister, fightin' your dad, and acting like your brother isn't your uncle.

I'm sure they'll get their own network. And for the off-season, they can fill time slots with Billy the Exterminator, Swamp People, and Dukes of Hazard reruns.
