Cordary Allen moving to TE

Brookhart has one veteran tight end (senior Ryan Deehan), a couple of youngsters who ooze potential (DaVaughn Thornton, Kyle Slavin), a pair of transplanted offensive linemen (Scott Fernandez, Matt Bahr), and two walk-ons (Alex Wood, Cory Yellen). Plus, Cordary Allen, a freshman tailback last season, was scheduled to change positions when practice begins on Thursday.

I've got to say, I really like this move. Allen was not in the mix at RB and simply didn't look the part at spring practices. He goes about 6'2" and 230 lbs while running a sub-4.6 forty. He should fit in well as a "move" TE in our system (the guy who is in motion and used in multiple ways from H-back, to FB, to slot WR to traditional TE - what DaVaughn Thornton is doing this year).

This is the right position for him. He looks like a natural. Could turn him from a bust into a star.

Slot TE's, if you can find them and actually use them, are extremely difficult to defend at the college level. Defenses have a hard time accounting for them. I like this move, especially if some of the incoming RB's can produce.

I thought it was clear that he didn't have the foot agility to be a RB. Good size, speed and athleticism so I really like this move IF he can catch the ball.

FB position will give way to Hback I'm predicting in many of our looks.

Another good reason for this move. I don't expect him to do anything this year, but by next he could be an effective backup to Thornton as the "move" TE and still only be a sophomore. We were wasting him and a scholarship by having him at RB. Too good of an athlete not to put him in the best position to succeed.

hopefully the O will have some routes where our guys (including and especially the TE) catches the ball heading down the field, in the flat, in space somewhere...off the play action....instead of YAC killing sit in the zone, come-back routes that we've seen for the last few years. where our guy catches the ball facing the QB. tackled immediately.

Agreed. Shannon Sharpe was my favorite part of those great Broncos teams. Daniel Graham was awesome for us. We need another Graham. Hopefully its DeVaughn, followed by Cordary, followed by Cope-Fitzpatrick.

His skills weren't good enough to be successful at RB. That experience at the position though makes him a threat at TE. Having a TE who has some agility and running ability after the catch is a real asset. This might turn into a significant move for both the player and the team. I like it.
