Lots and lots of scrimmage time today
QB's: Hansen had a better day today. When he throws to the WR's, there is a good chance it is completed. Hirschman still in a boot. Schrock seemed to have trouble getting the ball off and would have to tuck it and run. The coaches did not like that.
RB's: Didn't see Speedy at all today. I don't think he was injured but the only action he got was in punt return. Tony Jones ran for a couple nice runs for Td's early in scrimmage play. He is fast. Harrington has some trouble fumbling and Bieniemy was not happy. I really wonder who our FB is gonna be next year
WR's: Gray dropped two easy passes today, one of which would have been a TD. Richardson was held out of practice, but it looked to just be a minor leg injury. Toney also didn't play much later in scrimmage play. I think they wanted to get the other guys more reps. Cefalo and McCulloch were the guys who replaced them.
TE's: Bahr had a pretty nice catch down the left hash. Deehan felt Embree's wraith when Sandersfeld barely touched him and he fell down and fumbled. He had to do up downs after this
OL: Early on in scrimmage play the right side of the OL was blowing up the DL resulting in a couple Tony Jones TD's. I think we'll run a lot behind Harris and Miller. Kaiwi went down with what appeared to be an ankle injury but it didn't seem that serious as he was walking around on it later. Munyer looks like the starting C but they kept alternating him out with Handler. I really wonder what happened to Blake Behrens. He went from starting as a rsFR then now is backing up two freshmen at Guard
DL: Embree was not happy with DL play today. He had to kick the entire starting DL multiple times for not stopping the run. They did get quite a few "sacks" today with CHidera and Pericak leading the way. Pass pro does not appear to be our OL's forte. Goldberg also had some nice TFL's which drew praise from Embree. It looks like he definitely earned his scholly
LB's: Didn't notice much on them today. Woodson Greer did some more position drills but the S&C staff had him doing suicides seperate from the team.
CB's: Brownie had them doing an interesting drill today. Each DB had an eye patch on one eye and a tennis ball in one hand. He had them backpaddling and trying to catch the ball during this drill. Brownie was pretty pleased with the effort. Henderson with the most PT again. Olatoye was getting burned. Sandersfeld just makes plays. Orms was back out there again
S: Still solid here with Perkins and Polk. Terrel will make plays but still seems to be a liability in coverage. Harlos was still held out
K: Oliver made two 48 yard FG's to start practice. Him and Castor alternated time during scrimmage time. I think Oliver went about 2/3 from around 42 and Castor about the same. If Oliver misses, it's close.
P: I was expecting to see teh Punter situation settled. No one appeared to have won the battle today. I still think Grossnickel is #1 with Darragh close behind. Both kicked it into the endzone during pooch punting drills making the entire team run.

Some other notes: Saw Coach Bob Simmons? at practice today. The offense was pretty bad today. It was really sloppy and a lot of coverage sacks. Kyle Washington made a really nice play during punting drills to down the ball on the 5. Bieniemy, like yesterday spent time on the tower. You could hear him yelling and cussing from up there. Once he came down he was not happy. He said, "we need some real men to stand up." I really like our offensive staff, it seems to be a team effort re: play calling and coaching. He called the entire offense over after practice to have a seperate talk with them. When the team huddled up all I could hear Embree say was, "we will win same games this year," and "We don't do that here at Colorado." Sorry that's all I could really catch. I'll post more if I remember. GO Buffs

YungCoach on Twitter mentioned that Speedy is nursing a hammy, and PRich strained a groin. That's why they weren't going today. Also Slavin and Harlos were out with the flu apparently.

If the offense is going to resemble the 2001 Barnett offense, then the passing game is going to rely heavily on play action passing. If the OL is opening up running lanes and our RB's are producing - that is going to take a lot of pressure off the QB.

henderson is gonna be good for us this year. he will probably have some frosh mistakes but i like what i see from him. he had a great almost int but jus couldnt get up high enough. parker played today as well, played good coverage from what i saw. punting wise, it wasnt that good of a day for either.. id say gross did better in normal punts, and darragh did better in pooches.embo interviewed at the end and said gross is slightly ahead, but that they will keep going at it. Hope they dont over kick these kids. as slider said EB was pretty pissed off the whole practice, getting on people not doin their jobs, and needing them to be men....embo got on terrell and dejis ass a couple times. terrell for hitting a reciever when the ball was 10 feet over his head that would of been PI. and deji for giving up on plays and not tagging up. austin vincent caught some punts after speedy dropped one. it was a loud practice today. Big day tomorrow, i believe the travel roster will be announced.
Run Ralphie Run!

interesting about the flu. a big group of players have been staying at the Harvest House until dorms open (today)--at least half the team, give or take. i would see them having the HH breakfast buffet outside in the pavilion....and walking the creek path to the Dal. i wonder if them all being together helped communicate the illness.

If there is a such thing as good timing for the flu hitting the team, it's better now than game time or the week prior. Hope it fades quick. I wish I could catch a practice just to hear EB bitch about everything lol. Glad he came back where he belongs, think he is gonna be a very good HC someday soon. Also seems like a little thing but Im glad Embo jumped all over Terrell for the play bbads talked about above. There is aggressive play and then there is stupid play. With the margain of error this team has, we absolutely cant do those type of things. Leave that stuff back in the Hawkins error, we cant afford it. Dont like hearing that about Deji either, gotta have him play well.

I'm a little worried about our WR corps. If Richardson goes down, we could be in a heap of trouble it sounds like.

How is Bahr looking at TE? It seems like I keep reading about him making some nice catches, if he could emerge as a legit pass catching threat that would be huge.

I think we have depth issues all over the place but really glaring at WR. We are a few key injuries away from a really painful year and some young guys may get some serious on the job training.

For some reason I thought about what it would be like to have EB on the Hawk staff... significant lulz ensued

Bahr is more athletic than you'd think. He's a very good blocker and he's "serviceable" on simple release routes. He's not Thornton, but Thornton is not Bahr. They are opposites.

Bahr and Deehan are our only true TE's right now (both Seniors). Slavin is tbd.
At FB we are running with Harrington and Ahles, again both seniors. Someone called for Ahles to move back to LB... We are at least 2 deep at LB and we are not at FB.

I believe we are going to have a walk-on from Hawaii join after roster expands for FB? I hope so.

^^^ I agree. But, I still think Ahles would play more at LB. 2nd team LB plays more than 2nd team FB and he could still switch back if Harrington gets injured

No more so than knocking heads at practice, i bet.

Good to hear. Our TE depth is not looking good next season, though. Hopefully Slavin steps up and we can land a big time recruit.

That ship has sailed for this year, unless we experience a change of heart, right Nik and Boulder?

Not really. Apparently JCF is still talking to us.. so there's some hope there. McNamara is too. One would hope we could maybe sway Baylis from Oregon.. NCAA could help us on that one with some swift sanctions. It's obviously not looking good, but there's a little hope.

i thought about that, but it's only a couple hours a day in the open air with either a position group or O v. D against the same guys. at the hotel, that's a lot more hours of breathing the same air, eating, sitting around a table, unorganized mixing in closed hotel room spaces, etc.

of course, it could be that none of the players with the flu stayed at the HH. just speculating in my orig post and was thinking about posting about the players staying at the HH last week....so i thought i'd work it in since i thought it was interesting and maybe others might, as well. they had a nice breakfast spread going in the AM, lots of guys with VERY thick playbooks. interesting. pretty good digs for football practice. the HH isn't the Waldorf, but it's a good time in life when you are staying at the HH on the creek on CU's dime, free breakfast buffet, ambling down the creek path, going to football practice in Boulder, Colorado.

i was jealous.....everyone knows the best food is free food. i luvs me a breakfast buffet.

Breaking news: The NCAA has left Columbus and Miami and are headed to Boulder to investigate the possibility of free waffles. We quoted once credible NCAA investigator and she said "yachts, strippers, and million dollar homes are understandable but waffles, well lets just say, death penalty coming."

I'm really worried. I've heard that there may also be syrup involved. Not the cheap crap either, the real maple stuff. Whispers that a 3-hour Outside the Lines expose may be coming.

Damn Syrup.
