The Longhorn Network

I read this morning in the local paper that ESPN is trying to
negotiate with several providers including Time Warner and Uverse to
take the Longhorn Network and include it on their basic packages.
The asking for fee per subscriber is higher than other chanels that
providers currently pay. I for one am not interested in viewing the
Longhorn Network and do not want to pay additional fees to have it
in my programming package no matter the cost. I have contacted
Uverse and told them this and that if it is included I will
seriously consider cancelling my programming with Uverse. Just a
thought for those in a similar situation.

Hahahah. Over on Shaggy a bunch of guys are talking about cancelling U-Verse because it doesn't carry Longhorn yet. It puts the providers in a tough spot.

That's kind of a fun (if not necessarily illuminating) debate.

Seriously, forcing subscribers to pay for something they don't support--and don't support passionately--was bound to ruffle some feathers.

What if we were forced to financially support nebraska? What if our rates increased, and that revenue was directed to the huskers, but not to our team. You bet there would be a problem. Who would have thought otherwise.

The same passion that fuels revenue for the sport, is the same passion that will fuel the resistance to self-serving inititiatives like this. In the Pac 12, you're not viewed as supporting, say USC, but rather the conference when you subscribe (or are forced to pay for) the Pac 12 Network. It's a much easier pill to swallow.
