Texas A&M officially announces Big 12 exit (was: A&M seeking B12 exit)

Doesn't the SEC current set up have some teams who play EVERY year, even though they are not in the same division?

Alabama and Tennessee play EVERY year, don't they? Even though they are in opposite divisions.

Yes that is the case. At the same time, the 13 team MAC can help the SEC out with the scheduling.

This is kinda funny. A&M, OU and Bevo boards are talking about some mysterious flight on an OU registered plane that flew from Norman to Columbia back to Norman then to College Station and back to Norman and back to Columbia yesterday. Those poor souls are really having fun trying to figure that one out.

A link to the flight info. Scroll down a little.

8,000 feet and 200 kts? wft are these assholes flying? a helicoper?

I know squat about aviation but there was some discussion on the boards about flying unidentified at low altitudes and no flight plans. How the plane got from Norman to Columbia initially is a mystery. Even the 1st Columbia to Norman leg, the aircraft wasn't identifiable. It's a damn mystery which makes conspiracy theories more interesting.

I see no expansion scenarios for the PAC12 that don't include Tejas as they will end up diluting the TV money, not adding to it.

Mizzou and KU probably fit the profile and come closest to adding $$$, not subtracting.
Oklahoma is probably a go. OSU doesn not come close to the academic profile (although how did WSU, Oregon State and ASU get in?)
Texas A&M and their goofy Texas Militia make them a non-starter.
Cross off the religious schools such as TCU, SMU, BYU, and Baylor.
Air Force is a wild card....

In the end, I'm not sure any of the above add value. Texas adds value.

Georgia and Auburn also play every year in the Deep South's oldest rivalry.

I know what it is, I'm training to be an ATC..

It's not that hard to notice an aircraft that low and look up the tail number.

Right. I stand out in my yard every day, especially Sunday, with binoculars tracking the tail numbers of planes that fly over my house and then look them up cuz I'm anal.

so... you're going to be bossing me around someday? good luck to ya! that is a tough job. and i mean that sincerely. you will have a ton of responsibility on your shoulders. we pilots appriciate the work you do. honestly.

any thoughs on where you would like to work?

Pop quiz: What is the South's oldest rivalry?

UVA-UNC but I admit I kind of cheated since I stumbled across that fact while verifying the Auburn-UGA rivalry. :smile2:

But it's also interesting to note that UGA-Auburn could surpass the UNC-UVA rivalry in number of games played because they have the possibility of playing twice in a season since they are in opposite divisions of the SEC while UNC and UVA are in the same division of the ACC (apparently they're in the same division, I can't make any sense out of how the ACC came up with their divisional alignments.....)

Ding ding, we have a winner. UNC leads UVA 57-54-4, but UVA has been rapidly closing in over the past 20-25 years. Series started in 1892 and has been played every year with the exception of 1917/1918

Sources close to Texas A&M tell Orangebloods.com the Aggies will announce they are formally withdrawing from the Big 12 on Tuesday, setting up their application for membership to the Southeastern Conference.

The sources said Texas A&M has spent the past few days trying to iron out what the Aggies' exit from the Big 12 will cost.

The full exit fee penalty would be between $28 million and $31 million, according to Big 12 sources. But the Big 12 could withhold A&M's revenue for the 2011-12 academic year, which would total roughly $18 million.

Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin was on a conference call with Big 12 presidents on Saturday to discuss the issue. A&M sources say the Aggies will do whatever they can to help the Big 12 find a replacement to help avoid any damage financially to the conference.

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe sent a letter to Loftin on Monday that basically said the Big 12 has no desire to sue A&M and that if the Aggies don't sue the Big 12, the league would simply withhold A&M's revenue for the rest of the 2011-12, sources said.

In a related development, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick told reporters the Irish are more committed than ever to being an independent in football, quashing any potential of the Irish joining the Big 12 in the immediate future.

Big 12 sources say if Notre Dame is off the table, then there's probably no chance of adding Pittsburgh, another school that had been discussed by Big 12 presidents on their conference call Saturday after Loftin got off the teleconference.

One Big 12 administrator said there continues to be interest in gauging Arkansas' potential interest in joining the Big 12 - in what would essentially be a trade between the two leagues - and that BYU remains a potential target.

so, long story short. the big XII is asses and elbows.

28-31m exit fee? You´d guess he learned his lesson with CU and Nebraska .....

I do love how Chippy said "for now" on the ND deal. Like ND would touch the Big12  I'm pretty sure it was a lot less "shot down" and a lot more "laughed at"

Anyone else appreciate the volume of actual journalism Jens routinely delivers to this board? Rep.

This is a case where the new TV contract hurts Texas A&M. Colorado got out of the Big 12 for roughly 60% of their $9 million TV revenue. Texas A&M's piece of the pie is much bigger in the new Big 12, and the money from TV is much more, too.
